Accidently sent original birth certificate...

So when I sent my wifes AOS packet I accidently put her original Birth Certificate instead of a copy. Is it safe to say we wont be able to get it back or is there hope?

Never a wise idea to submit an original document, unless specifically requested. They are usually not returned. You can attempt to use this form and process to try to get it returned, not sure of time frame, or success rate: http://www.uscis.gov/g-884

If even you can not get it back, I am sure your wife can obtain a duplicate of her official document through her Embassy or in her country.

Timeline

I have told my fiancee to get at least 3 originals of everything, that way I can send originals and keep originals at the same time. My thinking is if they want a copy and get an original, they'll be happy with that and we'll still have originals, but if they want an original and get a copy, it'll add delays and we won't be happy. It's easier, in my opinion, to get multiple sets of originals from the start.
