Dual Citizenship for your child

I will be giving birth soon here in the U.S. Did any of you apply for a Philippine citizenship for your child? (Just in case you want to know my status, I am currently doing the ROC process.)

I haven't applied for Philippine citizenship yet for my child. This is because my wife and I haven't even filed for the embassy to recognize our marriage yet either. The reason is because we got married in NC and moved to California literally the very next week, and the Los Angeles Consulate will not do it for our state.

We have gone back to the Philippines with my daughter's US passport. All we had to show was her passport and birth certificate at immigration, they then let her in on the Balikbayan visa.

Both my children as well as my wife are now dual citizens. There is some paperwork involved but it's not too difficult;

1) Report of marriage abroad

2) Report of birth abroad once your child is born

3) Apply for passport for child

All of the above are done through the Philippines Consulate having jurisdiction over your area:

Often you can do more than one filing at the same time. Some services can be done in Philippines (if you happen to be there) which saves a small amount of money but the hassle factor is 1000% greater. Much, much easier to take care of all of this throught your local consulate here in the US.

After the birth of your baby, and before you leave the hospital you will fill out paperwork for the birth certificate and social security registration. Once the birth certificate arrives you then can get a passport for USA and you will submit a ROB to the Filipino Embassy that serves your area. You can also, apply for a Filipino passport for the baby. Details are on Filipino consulate's website that covers your area. Now your baby is a dual citizen with all rights from both countries.
