Thanks all, that helps. I'd go with her since I am driving us there and we are thinking of the hotel that's a minute walk away from the office. I am wondering if we need to line up outside 45 minutes early in order to not be there all day (like Danielle said was the case an the Montreal Consulate). It does piss me off extremely it's a 3 hour drive for a 5 minute appointment, but I guess we'll just have to make lemonade and turn it into some pseudo-honeymoon since we really can't go on an actual one.

No you have an appointment letter. I've only been at the USCIS officer for Infopasses so far and at least at "mine" you stand in line to talk to a receptionist but they're pretty good at once in a while ask if someone has an appointment and they get to leave the line. The line is basically for infopass people who need to prove to the receptionist they really need to be there or they get sent home without even seeing an immigration officer.

Thanks guys. We just got the appointment letter today! They scheduled us for September 30th, so 12 days away. Thankfully I should be good for that.

One weird thing though, they scheduled the appointment at the USCIS office in Milwaukee, WI, which we live 2.5 hours away in Wisconsin, but when looking up what office we go to, our county actually reports to St. Paul, MN, which is 3 hours away. Am I to assume the one on the letter is the one we go to? I'd hate to mess this up, but yeah, the letter says Milwaukee. Why would they send us to the one our county doesn't report to?

Yeah, that was the odd thing when I looked up where we report to and noticed we report to St. Paul, which is further away than Milwaukee. Just kind of concerns me that it doesn't match up, but yeah, should go to the one listed on the sheet.

So one week away from the biometrics appointment. I always get unreasonably nervous about stuff in this process, because it means so much to Danielle and I, as it probably is to everyone else who's gone through the process. Nervous about how they say on their site we report to St. Paul, MN, but the letter says to report to Milwaukee, WI. I also just don't want to show up to the appointment with Danielle and mess something up, like bring my phone in (I believe you're not allowed to), the letter pretty much just says bring that and photo ID of sorts (I assume passport with visa page for Danielle).

You go to the one stated on the appointment letter, they probably see that you live closer to the one stated in the letter and wants to do it more convenient for you.

You ARE allowed to bring your phone into the USCIS office, you just have to put it on silent. I've even had one out in front of an officer and he didn't care. No one forces you to bring it though, if you dare leave it in the car do so but hide it.

No need for visa page as the K1 is used up. Either she bring passport or US driver's license.

Thanks!

Technically her visa doesn't expire for nearly 3 weeks after our biometrics appointment, and that page is part of her passport (which obvious is in her maiden name). I just get concerned because all her current documentation (passport, SSN) is in her maiden name, and we filed this in her married name, as we should. Will be have any issues because of this? Should I bring a marriage certificate just in case? What about her vaccination record (even though we sent in a copy with the AOS)?

A visa is not an ID. A passport is an ID. A visa's only purpose is for entry, and her visa is invalid now because K-1 is a single-use visa.

Anyway, to answer your question, you should bring the marriage certificate because that is the documentation of her name change.

Thanks! The only reason I say bring the visa is because it's already part of her passport book. There's no removing it really.

Yep, that's the way most US embassies and consulates around the world affix their visas, attached to an empty page in the passport.

No. You show up at the USCIS office and will show them the appointment letter and ID(passport works for foreign spouse, license for USC) to get in the building. She changed her name through marriage, so bring a copy of the marriage certificate too. Some get asked for it, and some don't. For biometrics there is a short form to fill out with height/weight stuff and then they will call you. You get your photo taken and fingerprinted. That is all there is to it. How long the wait is inside, will depend on how busy they are. For us, we were always called fairly quickly.

Thanks again! Sorry about that, I just keep getting nervous about this. I always get the worst of thoughts in my head during this process. My only concern with the marriage certificate (which I think I have read isn't an issue) is that like nowhere on it does it actually say Danielle's new, married name. It just has my full name, her full maiden name, and all the signatures and whatnot. But what I've read is that it's implied and all that. There really isn't a part saying she's taking my name and all that. But I guess it does prove her and I are married, and then she is taking my name.

I was worried about this too when I got my Emergency Advance Parole in my maiden name and they said it was completely fine if I wanted to renew my passport in my married name while I was in Sweden. I asked if I were going to have any issues since the documents were in my maiden name. They just told me to bring the marriage certificate (which looks like yours, it does not say anywhere that I took his name) they would put 2 and 2 together and see I took his last name because that's still the common thing to do in the US.

Thanks! That eases my mind a little. I was also wondering, Danielle has her Canadian passport in her maiden name obviously, now once we get everything approved and get her greencard, do we re-new her Canadian passport with her married name? Is this something she has to be in Canada for a period of time to do, or can we do it through the mail? Or does she just apply for a US Passport? I know this is down-the-road type of stuff, but I am curious.
