Using Advance Parole less than a week after receiving in DR?

My wife got her AP card in the mail today - I have been itching to go to the DR for months now and want to leave within a week. She is actually sort of mad because she thinks I am poor now that she knows what rent and light bills are like in NYC...hahahaha.

Has anyone had any bad experiences with the Airlines with an AP card? I am not worried at all about her having trouble in JFK - just in the airport in Santiago. They do know what an AP card is for -- right?

Although many have used AP without an issue while their case is pending you should be cautious when traveling for anything othere than “urgent humanitarian reasons” or in furtherance of a “significant public benefit,” which may include a personal or family emergency or bona fide business reasons, reentry is not 100% guaranteed just because someone has and AP document.

If you havent, I would suggest and read the warnings and notes on the the AP instructions off of the USCIS website: http://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/form/i-131instr.pdf

Yeah - but I haven't found a single documented case on the Internet with someone crying or angry about being denied entry to the US.

You'd think if this was a huge problem, someone, somewhere, would have posted about being denied re-entry and there'd be a billion post response to it with everyone's panties in a bunch.

I'll be damned if I can find one post in these forums about someone being denied.

Not to be mean, but it's like no one can ask about Advance Parole without someone saying don't do it. What's the point of the card then?

And FWIW, the reason for me asking for parole, on the paperwork, was for recreational and family gatherings.

A major airport like Santiago should be familiar with the AP and know that it allows her to re-enter the US/board the plane. As you said, I don't imagine she'll have any issues in JFK since they see it all the time.

I know at O'Hare, the AP card meant a quick trip into secondary inspection (which you could tell the CBP officer thought was kind of a waste of time but was a formality). It's been awhile, but my husband (they let me go with him) was in secondary for maybe half an hour while they ran his name through the system and then sent him on his way.

I don't think anyone here has told you not to do it, I certainly didn't.

I know - sorry if I seemed jumpy.

It's just hilarious everyone wants the document, but is afraid to use it. I changed my plan to October because a friend wants to go with us now - but I plan to do a quick AP review when I get back.

when my husband came home from Santiago airport in april with AP card, the guy at the ticket counter didn't know what the AP card was. He had to go back and confer with a supervisor. Then when we got to Miami, we were both put in a holding area, and waited like 45 minutes and again they acted like the AP card was fake or invalid. They kept asking for a "resident" card, which he did not have.

If you are bringing back a zapote or cheese put it in your checked luggage, and not a carry on. We bought a big brick of frying cheese and the Santiago airport took it from us because it was on the carry on.
