Filing DS160, Medical and Interview.

We have received a letter from the Manila Embassy that my fiancee is eligible for a visa interview on 6/20/15. However, due to some delays with her paperwork and passport, we have not scheduled an interview as of yet. We are approaching end of August and she anticipates to receive her passport on August 29, 2015. We wanted to file the DS160 once she has received her passport. Is there a deadline for us to complete this process for a fiancee visa? I have read the letter from the Manila Embassy and there is nothing that stipulate any expiration. Can anyone confirm this?

Your prompt response to this concern is greatly appreciated.

For K1, you have 4 months to comply and schedule your interview at the US Embassy Manila. If you need more time, you can request for an extension. Some people say here in the forum K1 are automatically extended beyond 4 months, but it is safer to formally request for an extension if needed.

Thank you for your prompt response. Can you provide more details? 4 months from when I submitted the petition or when I received the letter from Manila Embassy?

Thank you again.

the dates can be found on your NOA2 hard copy, it indicates the validity of your approved petition and you only have those dates to complete all the process. But as what is said you can request for extension esp if you have valid reason like you are still waiting for the passport. Good luck!

Thank you. Now my next question, how would i extend it for a few days? We are just waiting for the passport in order to complete the DS 160 and pay for the visa fee. Unfortunately, the DS 160 application requires a passport number. I am here in California and my fiancee is in the Philippines. Would I be able to request for an extension?

Be mindful of the considerable delays now in the release of Philippine Passports. Where is she from? If her passport will not be released on Aug 29, she should consider extension for her passport (that is if the passport is for renewal). I had several colleagues who did not received their renewed passports on the scheduled released dates. http://www.dfa.gov.ph/newsroom/public-advisory/7160-dfa-offers-extension-of-passport-validity-free-of-charge

Yes you can request for the extension. You can email US Embassy in Manila, site your Case number and request for an extension. K visa information and interview appointments are handled by the Immigrant Visa Unit.

Thank you for the information. My fiancee was very nervous due to the discovery of a possible expiration, therefore, decided to call Manila Embassy. I was able to talk to someone and provided the circumstances of the events we are facing. She stated that there is a 4 months validity, however, it is automatically extended. Whew!!!

Once again, thank you so much for the support and responses to my inquiries. You have been very helpful.
