Hi all, so I am from Moscow (russian visa) and I am supposed to go back to Boston for my final year of college. I applied for a student visa a few days ago assuming that it would only take 2-3 days since that was how long it took every year I applied for one. But I'm assuming because of the political turmoil, they emailed me back saying it would take an average of TWO MONTHS for me to get my visa. I tried contacting them asking for more information on why it would take that long but they have been ignoring me (obviously). I'm kind of desperate.. my lease for my apartment ends on the 31st, I don't have anyone to help me move my things out of the apartment and this probably means I will have to take a semester off of school. Is there anyway I can get my visa asap? or at least know if it will take 2 months?

thank you guys I really appreciate it!

They are backed up that long for interviews? Is there another Consulate in Russia?

I already did my interview. They emailed me saying it will take them an average of 2 months to review my information....I thought it doesn't matter if its another consulate since its though the US embassy?

Thank you!

Sorry never seen this scenario.

Unfortunately this is why you should NEVER make plans (travel, moving etc) until you have your visa in hand.

Are you sure that letter is not just a standard "worst case scenario"? Like they add more time to your waiting though you'll actually get it earlier? For exampled when I've gone to get visa's they always tell me 14 days and I have it after about a week. Maybe check in the Russia specific forum to see if this is an issue for everyone in Russia? Because if the embassy has issue's with one visa it usually effects all visa's.

Hope you can find somewhere to stay while this is going on!

i study economics. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with my area of study since its only taken 2-3 days to get my visa the past few years?

What is your area of study? It is possible that you have been placed in administrative processing that is required based on your course of study. If so, that is something ober which the Embassy has no control in terms of the time it takes.
