this is exactly why i say all the flag nonsense is nothing but distraction. as of this morning, both the rainbow flag and confederate flag are alive and well flapping freely all over the country.

Oh yes. I am aware. But I also want people to be aware what they are asking for when they a) equate those two flags and b) advocate banning the rainbow flag. They are asking for murders and suicides. Which of course they then try to cover up by implying I'm crazy and that GLBT people are all unbalanced.

Met in 2010 on a forum for a mutual interest. Became friends.
2011: Realized we needed to evaluate our status as friends when we realized we were talking about raising children together.

2011/2012: Decided we were a couple sometime in, but no possibility of being together due to being same sex couple.

June 26, 2013: DOMA overturned. American married couples ALL have the same federal rights at last! We can be a family!

June-September, 2013: Discussion about being together begins.

November 13, 2013: Meet in person to see if this could work. It's perfect. We plan to elope to Boston, MA.

March 13, 2014 Married!

May 9, 2014: Petition mailed to USCIS

May 12, 2014: NOA1.
October 27, 2014: NOA2. (5 months, 2 weeks, 1 day after NOA1)
October 31, 2014: USCIS ships file to NVC (five days after NOA2) Happy Halloween for us!

November 18, 2014: NVC receives our case (22 days after NOA2)

December 17, 2014: NVC generates case number (50 days after NOA2)

December 19, 2014: Receive AOS bill, DS-261. Submit DS-261 (52 days after NOA2)

December 20, 2014: Pay AOS Fee

January 7, 2015: Receive, pay IV Fee

January 10, 2015: Complete DS-260

January 11, 2015: Send AOS package and Civil Documents
March 23, 2015: Case Complete at NVC. (70 days from when they received docs to CC)

May 6, 2015: Interview at Montréal APPROVED!

May 11, 2015: Visa in hand! One year less one day from NOA1.

there is zero reason to take such nonsense seriously. no one is going to ban any flag. if any flag is 'banned' in this country i would expect there to be violence. i mean, the whole confederate flag 'banning' nonsense started in what, june? for all the Facebook uproar no flag has been banned. just because a few retail chains decided to stop carrying confederate merchandise..to certain conservatives, this is the same. http://www.rawstory.com/2015/08/vindictive-confederate-flag-loving-conservatives-call-for-ban-on-rainbow-flag-after-virginia-shooting/

I would very much hope you're right, but I also thought that Donald Trump would be a novelty in the media and a failure in the polls and instead he could actually pull this one out. If he wins the presidency, we're moving to France.

I do hope you're right. I really do. I'm still planning contingencies.

I am fairly certain I read that the Confederate flag has been removed from several state and federal institutions. Meanwhile, the rainbow flag has been added, at least to one state/federal building.

Separate issue, but I seem to recall a school (was it in TN?) is forbidding the flying of the American flag except the big one on the flag pole.

Is the flag banned on this forum ?

the confederate flag should be removed from state and federal institutions. banning a flag would make it illegal to fly. and the public can fly whatever flags they want...

if you're referring to the white house being lit up with rainbow colors, i think you know that was celebratory, after the supreme court ruling.

i don't know what you're talking about concerning the american flag and tennessee, but i'd like to point out that there used to be much more respect for the american flag, flag etiquette. my grandfather hated to see people flying american flags from pick ups or on tshirts or bumperstickers. i see all flags as kitsch, but during his time it was pretty much a given that the only american flag displayed at any school would be flown properly..

I think you're right with that one. The Confederate flag belongs in museums or in the trash, right next to the Nazi flag. It has no place in public buildings. As an individual however, one can fly it unimpeded - it makes the perfect accessory for white hoods and buring crosses.

Roy Barnes removed it from the Georgia flag in 2001. People have been caring for a long time.

10 years ago no one cared one way or the other about the Confederate flag. It was what it was, a symbol of our nation's history. But things were simpler back then, too.

Hi sock puppet! Actually I think access to guns was a factor in both of these two loons and the carnage they inflicted. I am sure you have another jpg meme in the works to show otherwise though.]

Access to a gun is not the only thing that is required for a crime to be committed. While a gun does provide distance between the participants and the perp, violent crime does NOT require a gun as some seem to think.
Perhaps this meme will help you understand it from a different perspective:
