Gathering documents for the checklist

Hi Everyone,

I'm not sure if I should post this here or in the regional discussion. Kurtis (Canadian) has received his packet from the Montreal Embassy. The Embassy sent Kurtis a checklist to check off things he'll need for the interview. This includes the police certificate, a passport, long form birth certificate, and other things.

He doesn't have a passport that has been updated with his legal name change yet. The passport website says that it will take 10 business days for him to receive it, plus some additional time (up to 25 days) for the volume increase that the office is experiencing.

The birth certificate takes 6-8 weeks normally, but with proof of urgency (such as a letter from the Embassy confirming an appointment), the ministry will process it in 2 days.

The police certificate (from http://www.fingerprintingservice.com/index.html) will take 5 days.

SO, my question is:

Could Kurtis send in the checklist now (after he applies for the passport because that will take the longest) or should he wait until he actually obtains everything that he needs for the interview?

Honestly, I'm sick of waiting. I feel like if we wait for him to get all this stuff (and for us to get the money saved up--our kitty needs surgery so we're saving the majority of money for that--that's life, right?) then we'll be waiting for even longer than if he just submitted the checklist and got everything afterwards.

I just want to get our interview date! I want to be done with this part of the immigration process. I want to have him *here* with me. :(

But I also don't want to screw ourselves over by not having any patience. What do y'all think?

I think this is the time when you should let your logic speak instead of your heart :) Seems like it's better to wait a little bit, gather all of your documents and then send them in. Everything would be okay...I know how you feel because I felt exactly the same way before I got my interview date. But really, you should be patient. Good luck girl! :)

I know how impatient you can get waiting for this whole process to be over, but like the previous poster said, this is probably not the time to try to get ahead of yourself. Patience will pay off in the long run. If you go to your interview without any of the requested documents, you won't get approved anyways, so you may as well make sure that when you get to your interview, you'll be all set for an approval.

In British Columbia (where I lived when we were doing the K-1 process), I didn't have to wait long for any of the required documents. I got my RCMP check done while I waited at the station, I ordered my long form birth certificate online and it arrived about 4 or 5 days later, and when I called to book my medical exam, I got an appointment a week or so later.

I think I remember reading somewhere that the Montreal medical appointments are booked quite far out. Has your fiance got an appointment date for his medical exam yet? You will definitely need to have your medical exam done before your interview.

Good luck with gathering all the documents and I hope you have an easy, successful interview when the time comes.

Best wishes.

Send the checklist NOW. Montreal is taking 4 months approximately to issue interview dates AFTER the receipt of your checklist. There are a ton of people waiting for packet 4 still and they submitted their checklist in November.

Check out the Montreal waiting room thread in the Canada forum.
