44 day since interview in Cairo (split topic)

I don't know whether this is the right place to post my question, so if you may have any information please help.

I had my interview for an immigrant visa CR-1 at the US consulate in Cairo on July 12th, 2015. The interview went well, and the consular at the end told me Congratulations, took my passport, and told me I should receive it back within two (2) weeks.

Right now it has been already forty four (44) days since I had my interview, and I haven't recevied my passport yet. In addition, I have emailed the consulate so many times with no answer at all from their side.

Moreover, whenever I check my case on the NVC case status website, it says READY, and READY means that I have been scheduled an interview but didn't attend it yet. Also, most probably it isn't Administrative processing since the consular took my passport already and didn't mention that I am going to be under Admin Processing because he shouldn't keep my passport for that long.

Did anybody face a similar situation or could know the reason for this delay?

Ugh, I hate hearing stories like this. Personally we are only at the NVC stage, getting ready to submit documents. But I have heard others who interviewed recently at Cairo and are in the same situation as you and also not getting answers. Please keep us posted when you hear something.

Hi Khaled, my only guess is that you're in Administrative processing but the website for some reason doesn't reflect that. Again, this is only a guess, I would keep calling/emailing them. Good luck

53 days waiting for the passport and nothing yet came over. I've sent tons of emails and at last they answered one of them quoting the following "Please note that the visa is in the final processing stage and will be issued shortly".

Any news from anybody faced the same or heard this same tragedy?!

We also faced a similar situation, the interview went GREAT, my fiance was told congratulations you will get your visa in 1 to 2 months and the consular officer took his passport to issue the visa. We went into Administrative Processing (which is now REQUIRED) and we stayed in AP for a total of 11 months before we received word our petition was being sent back to the NVC due to their belief that our relationship was not valid. My suggestion is to have your fiance call her local congressman and/or senator and have their Immigration Liaison get involved. Mine got a lot more detail about what was going on and the REAL reason our petition was returned. It may help to get the process moving a little faster. Hope that helps and GOOD LUCK!!

Thanks a lot everyone for your responses.

Here's another message that they use to reply with whenever you inquire about your visa.

"The file is with the officer for his review. Once we finish our procedures, we will process the case to conclusion"

Clearly it doesn't help with any thing, but anyway. I have also got this email that should help us knowing about the visa status: CairoIV@state.gov

This email is different from the regular one that almost everyone of us keeps writing to which is: consularcairoiv@state.gov

I didn't try contacting the NVC since it's a big hassle to get an answer from them whether by phone or email.

What I'm trying to do now is to make my wife contact the congressman of her district and see if he can help us out as some people suggested doing so.

It's very weird what's going on specially that they said that they should hand me the passport back with the visa in it within two weeks and that Consular didn't mention that I need any further processing.

My only hope that I should receive the visa soon is that they have my passport with them, and they can't keep it for so long!

Hi Bombo,

Reaching out to you here fam, it's really unnecessary the stress caused by the incompetence of this embassy's staff.

What sucks most is the uncertanity about everything, they take pleasure in causing others pain i guess.

I had a long wait 4 interview, from April to August!, finally at my interview on the 25th i was approved and given the 2 weeks lie.

I was told to send in temporary travel documents from the red cross as i could not obtain a passport from my local embassy here in Egypt.

i sent the doc on the 27th of August and they received it on the 31st of August.

After countless e-mails to the consular section, finally i got an answer yesterday, was told to send in my travel docs 4 further processing of the case!!!!!!!!!!! :huh2::huh2::huh2:

Mind you the travel doc was already delivered to the embassy.

Has anyone sent a document to the embassy after his/her interview, how long does it take before its received by the embassy?

So, i guess that is the nature of this embassy, incompetence is there motto.

So just giving you a shoulder here, we in this ###### together, i can only pray you get the visa ASAP and be re-united with your loved one.

I spoke to my lawyer over the weekend and he advised that we approach the senator's immigration liason offficer as we can obtain a clear picture of our case through that way once the promised 2 weeks pass.

So i guess you should really do that. This is my 3rd weeks and my petitioner will visit the senator's office at the end of this week.

Keep heart, i will keenly follow your timeline. keep posting.

Thanks a lot Jamaal for sharing your story. I asked my petitioner to try contacting the Congressman's office, so in case I get any updates regarding this I will be sharing it with you guys.

On the other side, I didn't hear anything from the US Consulate yet, and today is my Fifty Ninth (59) day since the interview date.

Any news from anyone???? I've been waiting for 65 days so far

Has your petitioner contacted their Congressman yet? If you want an answer as to what is going on....that is where you will get it from! I did not believe that they would or even could do anything for our case, but I was suprised at how willing and able they are to reach out and get these answers we so desperately wanted. My liaison was able to find out the EXACT reason our petition was returned for review. Then only answer WE got from the Embassy is that they did not believe our relationship to be real. The actual reason was far more than that, and if I had reached out sooner, we may have gotten a reconsideration. Instead we had to refile a second petition and appeal their subsequent denial.

If she needs to talk with someone about how to do this or needs encouragement to do so, she (or you) can send me a message on here and I would definitely help her out in any way I can.

Hope you hear from them soon.
