With a CR-1 visa, when the applicant reaches the U.S. can he/she get an SSN? Or just an ITIN? When can they get an SSN? Thanks.

When you pay your immigration fee and enter through a US POE those papers will be contained in the visa packet and will be sent off to the necessary entities that will process both the Green Card and the SSN. Usually, SSN is about 2-3 weeks after arrival in the US and the GC can take 30 to 45 days to arrive.

For both CR1 and CR2 visas, if the beneficiary is over 18 (CR1 most likely true; for CR2 most likely false) the beneficiary will be sent a SSAN in about 2 weeks after you fork over another $165 to USCIS at their ELIS website (google for actual url). This can be paid after receiving the 'A' # and before traveling to the US.

If the beneficiary is under 18 you have to apply for SSAN in person at a local office. Take all the visa packet and anything else you get at POE when you go.

This is all explained on a cover sheet attached to the visa packet.

Hello! I don't know where to post my questions, I hope I'm doing it right here. Please help me on what to do. While waiting for my amended birth certificate to be submitted to the embassy, my medical examination lapsed already. I was given a 221g and my passport was left at the embassy. Do I need to get my passport from the embassy in order to do my medical examination again? Do I need to set an appointment online like what i did for my interview? Can I authorize my husband to get it?

I want also to know for future process, so it mean the CR2 or under 18yrs old beneficiary no need to pay the $165 at ELIS online? we can pay it personally at local office at POE?

I'm certainly not a DHS expert but I believe the $165 is to process the 'greencard' which comes from USCIS. The SSAN card is 'free'. But if the CR2 applicant is under 18 then he/she/guardian needs to apply in person at a SSA office.

The $165 will need to paid at some point in time to get the GC, so why not pay before traveling?

I don't believe that BPCS is equipped to handle monetary transactions, just push paper. I will know for sure in about 8 hrs.
