i'm sure the forgiveness coming from the family means a great deal to the girl - or will as she gets older. she has to live with the consequence of her accident till she dies or looses her memory.

It implies she needs to be forgiven.. that she did something wrong. A statement saying "This is not your fault, you did nothing wrong" seems more appropriate.

I think the majority of boys probably shoot their first rifle in the Boy Scouts, which is about 11 or 12.

I was allowed to shoot a .22 pump unsupervised at the age of 12. My father had a CC permit at the age of 14

If more citizens were armed, criminals would think twice about attacking them, Detroit Police Chief James Craig

Florida currently has more concealed-carry permit holders than any other state, with 1,269,021 issued as of May 14, 2014

The liberal elite ... know that the people simply cannot be trusted; that they are incapable of just and fair self-government; that left to their own devices, their society will be racist, sexist, homophobic, and inequitable -- and the liberal elite know how to fix things. They are going to help us live the good and just life, even if they have to lie to us and force us to do it. And they detest those who stand in their way."

i'm saying, the girl - personally - probably does need forgiveness. it was an accident and i'm sure she's been reassured it was just that..doesn't change the fact that if she hadn't touched the gun, the man would be alive. obviously the man instructed plenty of kids before she picked up the gun. it's an unfair consequence but it's still the consequence the girl has to live with.

i believe kids should be allowed to shoot/hunt supervised.

i don't think that firing uzi's at roadside tourist stops should be encouraged - at any age - and definitely not so close to a bar (same building, right?)

There is a full video of the incident (stopped a the point before the death happens but enough to see the girl lose control almost immediatly), I thought the instructors behavior was a bit weird and lackadaisical for what he was doing. I may be remembering it wrong, I will need to go back and look.

i'm definitely not saying that she had done anything wrong. or that the instructor did anything wrong (other than getting a little too used to his job maybe). but if you have a 'shoot an uzi' roadside stop, eventually - somebody's going to have an oopsie. just..not a good idea.

Why do kids need to learn to shoot guns anyway?

They aren't old enough to drive, smoke or drink, but old enough to carry one of the most lethal weapons in the world. I say the age limit needs to be at least 16.

ya, 9 year olds, mostly, are too busy with the fart jokes, still.

I'd support bumping it to 16...

i think any instructor that puts an UZI into a 9 year old's hands, loaded, is a tardo...

There. I said it. And I'm a gun owner...

or until she graduates from Ranger School.

I shot my first gun well before the age of 16, we had a shooting range at school.

But that was in England.

I was under the impression that most children here have driven here well before the legal age on private property.

My ATV has a sticker saying no Under 16 and no passengers and that has well and truly been ignored.

Yeah, I think I was 8 when I first drove a vehicle.
