A year later after our first interview, we got a notice for a second interview. The letter states it's an "interview for I-485".

It also said "bring passport, as well as any other service issued documents. You must bring valid photo identification for both you and your spouse."

Our I-30 was approved the day after our first interview.

Does anyone know if this is going to be the tuff 2nd interview process that everyone dreds? USCIS trying to find out the legitimacy of the marital relationship?

Hi - sorry to hear about this - can you be a little clearer on what got approved a year ago? You say I-130 (I think that's what you mean), but that's the petition for your spouse to get a visa number etc and the basis of adjusting status but not the whole Adjustment of Status process - so one year ago did your spouse receive a conditional (or 10 year) green card or not?

I'm sorry. In March '06 My husband and I had our initial interview for AOS I-485. The interview was strange, the officer just said we need to mail in some tax papers. The next day, we got an email saying the I-130 was approved. We sent in the tax papers about a month later. Since then we have been waiting, calling the 800#, Info pass and no one could give us a status or update of our case.

We finally wrote a letter to the district director and his boss. A month later, now we got a letter requesting that we appear for an interview. Besides the photos they are requesting on the letter, they are also requesting a employment verification for our co-sponosr.

I'm trying to find out what this second interview could be about. Could it be that at the first interview, they didn't beleive our marriage was ligit?

I'm sure others with more experience will chime in on this - it sounds like you got 'stuck' in the system - maybe FBI namecheck or the tax paper RFE or something like that, and they were not in the position to approve you in the first interview. So I'd actually see this as a somewhat positive thing, since you can now go and ask questions etc. I would take evidence of your relationship together since its been a year as well as a copy of your whole packet, and financial info of your sponsor etc including the employment verification as well as a copy of the tax papers that you submitted a year ago. They may be asking for the employment verification of your sponsor because of the time that has elapsed. Did you apply for an EAD or AP? Just my opinion - it doesn't sound like a 'stokes' interview or other gruesome thing, just that they need to interview again in order to actually be able to approve you.
