What does the Petitioner do after it goes the NVC?

I am the petitioner and my petition was approved by the USCIS and sent over to the NVC.

I will be traveling to Ukraine to attend my Fiances Doctor Appointment on the 14th of September and her interview on September 16th. She already has all her forms ready to go. I mailed her a copy of the I-129F packet and the Affidavit of support.

I have not heard from the NVC since I received the notice that they got my I-129F packet. Can you guys tell me if I am missing something? Am I supposed to schedule an interview at my own embassy or does this happen after my Fiance has her interview?

Contact the embassy there. Ask if they have received it.

In Romania, they received it before the status was updated and they immediately notified my fiancee.

NVC customer service is also available by phone M-F during normal hours. You do have to call sometimes 10-15 times in a row to be placed on hold and not be told you have too long of a que to be put on hold.

In our case the status in NVC took less than 10 days.

Email is not the way to contact NVC. I sent an email in May, Visa was approved end of June, they recently got back to me last week saying NVC has processed the package and I now need to follow up with the embassy.

The NVC gets the package from USCIS. Prepares it for the embassy then , in the case of a K1, very quickly usually sends it through.

The destination is the embassy. Once the embassy receives it and process it they contact your fiancee to let her know she has a visa application and what she must do next.

If the embassy does not get and process the packet from NVC they do not contact her. If they do contact her, NVC has done its job.

The NVC did its job in my case. I want to clarify that I have done my part. She has her interview in 3 weeks, so I do not have to worry about submitting any documents, correct?

Thank you. It is hard to feel confident about any of the steps in this process until it is over. It is just nice to have assurance that we are on the right track.

You do not have anything to do for NVC anymore.

Each embassy is different. You have to get ready the documents the embassy asked for to present at the interview. From what I have seen, the following are at all embassies , proof of relationship (photos together, photos, and more photos (I presented lots of photos at mine and it went great), there is a medical interview your fiancee must attend, you must have a signed affidavit of support with supporting paperwork at the interview.

Good luck and for questions on what exactly is needed call the embassy. They should have a number on their website (or through google) or in the initial email your foreign fiance received from them.

I called NVC a week after my case was approved, its impossible to get through, so I called at 6:58 AM and was able to speak to someone that gave me the CASE # and INVOICE # I then sent packet 3 to the embassy email where I put all pertinent information and applied for the 260...a few days later I was able to register to pay and make appointment but waited a few weeks until appointments were available. My advice is to call to get your case and invoice and be proactive with embassy but do not send more than one email, so get it right the first time.

I do not know what country you speak of, but for us, we waited 2 weeks, then put the telephone on "speed dial" and spent many hours getting to talk to them.

Finally we got through, and got her case number and all specifics. was told the file was sent to embassy that day.

Hope our experience helps you.

  • 3 months later...

@Tag - My fiance was granted a visa roughly 3 weeks after I made this post! :-) We were both surprised. We ended up booking her flight about a month after she was granted a visa because I needed more time to get situated before she arrived in America. Overall the entire process took just less than 4 months (Late May to Mid September). Let me know if you have any questions!
