BRUISES I GOT FROM MY MEDICAL!!!

I had my medical a week ago and blood was extracted out of my vein... i noticed that the medtech didnt have to pull up the needle while taking the blood like that of the skin testing (I KNOW THIS FOR SURE COS I AM A NURSE)... there was severe pain where the needle has been inserted but didnt mind it at all... when i was back at my hotel i then noticed that it was inflammed... i thought all the while that it would be gone in 3-4 days but then it left a mark after a week... they better know how to do it cos a hematoma on the left arm is very ugly :( .. this is how it looks like....

Some people bruise easier than others. My Mum used to have severe bruising after having blood taken and it was done properly.

It can also happen after they withdraw the needle and you don't apply the correct amount of pressure to the puncture wound.

i feel for you! and myself. I went to my medical last week, and they drew blood last thursday. My right arm looks at least as bad as yours! This, despite my telling the med tech person that I'm very difficult to get blood from.. She just said that she was picking "A nice vein".. When I showed my students my arm this morning, all of them winced and asked how come the person who took my blood wasn't trained..

I really hope it'll go away soon. it's way too unsightly.

thanks for empathizing with me.... here's my suggestion: when taking blood right out of your vein make sure u apply direct pressure for 5 mins and remove the bandage out so that u can see it if it is inflammed...

My Fiancee who is a Nurse had her medical in London today. The Nurse drawing blood too one look at her veins and said "you look like you will bruise easily", this was true. After blood was drawn, my fiancee was told to lie there with her arms above her head and fingers extended for half an hour.

This was a surpise to her, but she did not bruise like she normally does.

OUCH!!!!!!!

This is the frustrating part of not getting to choose your own doctor or technician!

I hope it heals up and that there isn't anything bad from the inflamation. I'm sure with a little TLC it will be fine.
