My cats eat dry food, so I plan on taking a couple bags with me. Had a FULL bag taken from me at the airport before! Usually when we go on vacation and come home I have a full unopened bag waiting...but I knew that I didnt this time so I bought a full bag at PetSmart before we flew home so I would have it here... When they took the bag I explained to Mr Customs that my cats are both diabetic and if possible could I please take a couple handfuls of the food so I could feed them when we got home..we usually arrive around 630 in the morning so nothing was opened (at least no place that sells their food)...he actually opened the bag and let me poor some into a baggy I had in my purse, filled it as full as I could get it...

Kimmbo ...

My dog has a heart condition, so I have always had to travel with food for her as well. I took a 20lb bag when I crossed - no questions.

However ... to get to my point - Mecca eats Hills HD. 1 bag of Hills cost me $89 CDN. The same bag costs me $35 in the States. HUGE savings. Beware though that your new vet/supplier will need to see proof from your current vet that your cats have been prescribed the medicated food - so definately ask the vet for a complete copy of your pet's records before you move. As well - prescription food (in my area) is hard to track down. Most vets will only order it on an as needed basis, so picking it up on the fly is never an option.

Filed: IR-1/CR-1 Visa Country: Canada
Timeline

Hi All,

I just want to add my two cents in here also.

I crossed via Lewiston on Friday, March 23, 2007 and was activating my CR1.

We arrived at the border at about 2pm. We had a 24' Budget rental and my car on the back of it.

We went through the truck lanes, we told the guy at the booth I needed to activate my CR1 Visa. He took our passports and the envelope marked "DO NOT OPEN" and told us to pull off to the side and go inside to immigration.

Once inside, took about 5 minutes for a very nice gentleman to call my name. He explained it would take him approximately 20 minutes to get all my paperwork put together at which time he would call me back up again. I asked him if he wanted to see my 3299 with my list of belongings (was 3 pages since I had a 24' truck FULL), he said no. I also advised him I had 2 cats which I would be bringing in with me & asked if he wanted to see the documentation on them... he kinda laughed and asked me if they were foaming at the mouth... (?) I said no, he said "Then I don't need to see your paperwork)... LOL He was laughing about it.

My husband and I sat down, about 15 minutes later, he called me back up, took my fingerprints (2 index fingers only). He told us to have a seat it would be about another 5-10 minutes.

He called us back up about 10 minutes later. He gave us our passports back, had me sign a form to acknowledge he told me about the AOS process 90 days prior.

And that was it. We took everything, got back in the truck and drove off. :) I don't know why he didn't want any of my documentation, but I'm still glad I had it. God forbid if I didn't have it and they asked for it ....

Anyways.. That was my experience with Lewiston Bridge.. Very nice... BTW - Here is a phone # to call the Niagara Falls Borders which is updated hourly (5 minutes after the hour) 1-800-715-6722

Thanks Emily and thanks again for the PM. Mecca is a dog, but it was good to know to watch out for future recalls anyway.
