NOA2 received and a question re: US police certificates

I can't believe it - we received our NOA2 via email today!! :)

Now it's on to the next step, which brings me to my question. My fiance needs to get a U.S. police certificate for his interview. He lived in the U.S. for several years on an H1-B visa before returning to India about a year and a half ago. From the research I've done, he has to get his fingerprints taken and then send them to the FBI. They will then send him a copy of his identification record, which fulfills the requirement for a police certificate, according to the FBI web site.

Since he's living in India at the moment, I'm guessing this process could be a bit problematic. Is there an easier way for him to get the certificate? Should he contact the Chennai consulate?

Thanks for any advice.

Your fiance doesn't need an US police certificate when applying for a visa to the US. Police checks are done automatically by USCIS, NVC and the consulate. Yeah you can get your fingerprints sent to the FBI and get a certificate back but that will be a waste of your time and money since the consulate will not ask for it.

Congrats. Don't worry about U.S. police clearances, the FBI will take care of that.
