Your friends were probably handled through the California Service Center which is processing I-129fs literally anywhere between 5 and 10 times faster than Texas Service Center.

Also, everyone....there's a long-established thread for February TSC filers over thisaway: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/538619-february-2015-filers-texas-service-center/page-1

Marriage/ AOS Timeline:

23 Dec 2015: Legal marriage

23 Jan 2016: Wedding!

23 Jan 2016: "Blizzard of the Century", wedding canceled/rescheduled (thank goodness we were legally married first or we'd have had a big problem!) :sleepy:

24 Jan 2016: Small "civil ceremony" with friends and family who were snowed in with us. December was a bit of a secret and people had traveled internationally and knew we *had* to get married that weekend, and our December legal marriage was nothing but signing a piece of paper at our priest's kitchen table, without any sort of vows etc so this was actually a very special (if not legally significant) day. (L)

16 Apr 2016: Filed for AOS and EAD/AP (We delayed a bit-- no big rush, enjoying the USCIS break)

23 Apr 2016: Wedding! Finally! :luv:

27 Apr 2016: Electronic NOA1 for all 3 :dancing:
29 Apr 2016: NOA1 Hardcopy for all 3
29 Jul 2016: Online service request for late EAD (Day 104)
29 Jul 2016: EAD/AP Approved ~3 hours after online service request
04 Aug 2016: RFE for Green Card (requested medicals/ vaccination record. They already have it). :ranting:
05 Aug 2016: EAD/AP Combo Card arrived! (Day 111)
08 Aug 2016: Congressional constituent request to get guidance on the RFE. Hoping they see they have the form and approve!

K-1 Visa Timeline:

PLEASE NOTE. This timeline was during the period of time when TSC was working on I-129fs and had a huge backlog. The average processing time was 210+ days. This is in no way predictive of your own timeline if you filed during or after April 2015, unless CSC develops a backlog. A backlog is anything above the 5-month goal time listed on USCIS's site

14 Feb 2015: Mailed I-129f to Dallas Lockbox. (L) (Most expensive Valentine's card I've ever sent!)

17 Feb 2015: NOA1 "Received Date"
19 Feb 2015: NOA1 Notice Date
08 Aug 2015: NOA2 email! :luv: (173 days from NOA1)

17 Aug 2015: Sent to NVC

?? Aug 2015: Arrived at NVC

25 Aug 2015: NVC Case # Assigned

31 Aug 2015: Left NVC for Consulate in San Jose

09 Sep 2015: Consulate received :dancing: (32 days from NOA2)

11 Sep 2015: Packet 3 emailed from embassy to me, the petitioner (34 days from NOA2).

18 Sep 2015: Medicals complete

21 Sep 2015: Packet 3 complete, my boss puts a temporary moratorium on all time off due to work emergency :clock:

02 Oct 2015: Work emergency clears up, interview scheduled (soonest available was 5 business days away--Columbus Day was in there)

13 Oct 2015: Interview

13 Oct 2015: VISA APPROVED  (236 days from NOA1)

19 Oct 2015: Visa-in-hand

I wish that was true but it was out of the Texas facility because we are in New Mexico

Your friends, though. The ones who applied in May and have an interview date in 2 weeks? They were processed through California. I can all but guarantee it.

Texas stopped taking new applications around late March/early April (it was supposed to be Match 27, but a few unlucky people accidentally got routed there until about the first week of April).

Wait--now I'm confused. What visa are you applying for and when did you file? You really should fill in your timeline.

So you are filing a K1 visa? Your profile shows F1.

I KNOW that you said that YOU are out of Texas. Because I am able to read English. I'm not talking about you and your 6 month wait. That is 100% completely normal for Texas. Sorry, but it is. I'm talking about your friend who you said applied in May. And you want to know why they have an interview date already and you don't. Well, I'm trying to answer that question for you but you don't seem to want to hear it.

If your friend who applied in May. Unless something extremely weird is happening, he was handled through California. Do you understand the difference between a Lockbox and a Service Center? A Lockbox is where you send your application. ALL K1 filers send their application to the Dallas Lockbox. The Lockbox then routes applications to different Service Centers. Up until March 27, half of applications were routed to Texas and half to California. After March 27, all applications were routed to California. California must have more staff members, because they send applications to embassies in 2 months or less. Texas takes 6 months or more.

You told me that your friend applied in May. May is after March 27. If he somehow WAS routed to Texas, it's a huge fluke. And an absolute miracle that he got through Texas that quickly, to the point that he probably had an expedite somehow.

I see you're new here. I've been here over 6 months and have been very closely tracking the movements of the service centers for that entire period of time. You don't have to listen to me though. Ask your friend what the first three letters of his receipt number are. If they're WAC, he's out of California. If they're SRC, he's Texas.

You can also look here: This announcement that starting March 27, there would be workload changes for I-129fs. That change was that every single new case after that date was routed to California.

It's all about the date they filed. I know it makes no sense but because they filed after March 27, they got sent to the faster service center. Good luck for them.

Texas has a huge backlog of petitions and is averaging about 200 days from NOA1 (receipt of the case) to NOA2 (approval). California is taking an average of 30 days. This winter, it was 210 vs 21. Literally a tenfold difference. You can see the statistics collected by Visajourney here: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1historical (look at Step 2-- NOA1 to NOA2. Ignore Vermont, they don't do many K1s...those are special cases).

Why USCIS let the service centers get so out of balance in the first place is anyone's guess. But that's what happened. And we all freaked out for months until someone finally listened to us and "fixed" the problem. Instead of taking those of us stuck "in line" at Texas and transferring us to California, they just stopped sending new applications to Texas. The end result is that anyone who filed after March 27, got sent to the service center where they got approved in 2 months or less, while the rest of us are still in a 7 month long line at Texas. That's life with USCIS for you.

Edited: I see from your other thread that they received your petition on March 27. Just really bad timing for you. If it had been after that date, the Lockbox would have routed you to California. :(

I don't know what to tell you then. It is entirely possible that he was sent to Texas--but he'd be the first one we've heard about here in 5 months. He's also be one of the first non-expedited people to get out of Texas in 4 months. But maybe his lawyer has connections and greased some wheels and jumped him ahead of all of us in line. I'd love to hear more. If anyone can expose USCIS corruption, it's us here at Visajourney.

Your fiance's political connections have nothing to do with your case. If anything, I think that being too connected in a foreign country could invite extra scrutiny, but I really don't think it matters one bit.

And yes, welcome to the club. This is life at USCIS. I've been here since months before filing my petition, and I was already an old-hand at this, helping newbies with questions about their paperwork. Some of those newbies I helped---they're already here in the US and married.

There is no such thing as fair in this process. They don't care. They "fixed" the problem, without making the "fix" fair to those of us already at TSC. And based on what you're telling me, it sounds like TSC is willing to take petitions from specific lawyers with connections and expedite them through the process ahead of the rest of us for no good reason. Honestly, this wouldn't actually surprise me. Nothing about USCIS would surprise me anymore. Seriously. But, if proven, this would be front page government corruption news and probably get more than a few people subpoenad by Congress. Unless, of course, your friend is very confused and was routed to CSC along with 99% of other post- March 27 filers. But ask him all the same. I'd love to see heads roll if they really are up to something like that.

I still keep getting the "Your case was received on February 26th 2015" message :/ Just out of curiosity, What was the URL you used? And did you use your SRC number to check?? o

I made an account on the USCIS page so no I didn't check case status with my SRC number but by logging in. I'm sure yours will come this week if not then by next.
