Hi all,

I had originally planned on returning to Vietnam to get married and bring my soon to be wife on a CR-1 but the situation at work for taking time off has back fired. Now i'm looking into the K-1 Visa. I have known my fiance for a little over a year and a half. we have been staying in contact with each other mostly every day through F.B. , Skype, Line, and Facetime. This was my first time meeting her in Person last July and we had hang out together for 3.5 weeks until I had to return back to the U.S. , my question is will they give us much trouble if I only seen her once in person for only a few weeks ? We have taken lots of pictures together with the date and time recorded on to the pictures, and we have saved all of our chat messages back from when we started talking to each other we also kept track on the amount of time that we video chat each day. And what kind of evidence do I need to show them that our relationship is real and not a fake ? Do you guys recomend me to start sending little amount to her to show that i'm supporting her and keep records of it ? I'm just not sure how the process works in Vietnam I want to make it less headache as possible for her when she does go in for her interview.

Thanks for the help,

Azn_101

Only meeting once is perfectly acceptable. You shouldn't have any problems at all as long as you submit any supporting evidence. Several photographs of you and your fiance together, copies of your boarding passes, receipts from hotels, restaurants, etc. The K-1 guides on here and member feedback are great and really helpful on everything that you need to do to make it through the process. Good luck!

Whether you send money or not don't disclose that if you aren't asked. Sounds like pay for play if you know what I mean.....

You've met the requirements for k1 you've only had to be together once in the past two years....there is no minimum time you've had to know each or been in a relationship. Boarding passes, passport stamps, and your other evidence should be fine for Vietnam...

Did you have an engagement ceremony and/or reception with lots of pictures? Vietnam is a high-fraud country and the consulate officers are well aware of the Vietnamese traditions and customs, meaning if you both are engaged, they will expect to see pictures of your engagement. If you did not have one, this will certainly raise eyebrows.

I talked with my lawyer today he told me that it wasn't necessary to show pictures of the engagement because it's often mistaken for wedding pictures ? And said he won't add the pictures to the packet, he will add pictures of proof that we were together during my stay in Vietnam & most of my pictures are time stamped. All he said that my fiance & I need to do is to write a statement about how we met and when and how did we fell in love and where. He also wanted me to print out all the texting history from skype, line, & facebook. I have saves all the text history, my old airline itinerary and tickets. Should this be enough evidence to prove our relationship ? I will be returning in a few months to purpose our marriage to our parents and let them talk and see if they will accept us marrying etc..... Then I will return again in a few months to do the engagement ceremony and hope it goes to plan when she receives her visa then we will return to the U.S. together and get married.

Thanks,

Every person on this site will have different advise on what you need or don't need for your interview, but the US Consulate in Vietnam is at most times entirely different from other US Consulates and each case can go either way depending on who's conducting the interview. At least that's what I have learned from my personal experiences and reading other people's stories on this site.

Just like Frontgear mentioned above, Vietnam is a high-fraud country and there is very good chance it may raise eyebrows if you don't have lots of photos of your engagement ceremony and/or reception. Not to scare you, but when I attended the interview with my wife, I observed a large volume of people crying when they were denied for whatever reason. During our interview, they did in fact ask to see our photos from our Din Hon, which we gladly presented them. They also did not confuse them with wedding photos, the interviewers at the Consulate are fully aware of the the differences between a wedding and engagement ceremony. AZN_101, I understand your lawyer said its not needed, but if he's working from the US or doesn't specialize specifically in Vietnamese cases it would be better safe than sorry to have these things available for the consulate if they ask for them. In most cases lawyers aren't needed unless you have a sketchy past. From the time I applied for my now wife until the time she arrived in the US, everything went flawless. I thank lots of guys in the Vietnam section for good information and would also advise you to take heed to any good information or warnings they tell you about.

Nguyensteven it's great you passed with only have met your fiancée once, but maybe it has something to do with your background. Your profile says you met your fiancée while you were visiting for Tet, leading me to believe you may be VK? If so were you introduced to your fiancée by a friend or family member who also resides in VN? If so, this could have lots to do with your case being approved with only meeting one time.

@icon: I think nguyensteve is still waiting for the interview. HIs fiancee is scheduled for Sept 18th, 2015, if I am not mistaken.

I met my wife only once and we had our engagement ceremony & reception a week after I landed in Da Lat. But we had tons of engagement pictures and of us together, along with receipts for everything (ring, hotel, restaurants, tours, airline, etc.) We were lucky that everything went smoothly with the exception of the Packet 3 that we never received.

I believe everything happens for a reason and if you are meant to be together, nothing will stop you!

Front gear do you think a purposed marriage would work if we were to document pictures of that event and have a log of who attended ? I'm planning on returning to VN for 2 weeks to Purposed to her officially felt that purposed on Skype wasn't the right thing to do. And a few months later I will return back for the engagement party. Do you think we have a chance to pull this off this will also give her family time to prepare ?

Thanks,

If you are looking to get legally married in Vietnam, you don't have time to complete the government process. The only exception is if you pay under the table, in which case almost anything is possible. Absent that, plan on at least a month to complete all the requirements, interview, etc.

I too only met once. I have email/chat logs, facetime logs, photos from our dinh hon and travel with my cousins, with hotel receipts and bus/ferry tickets/stubs.

What is the line of sending money for support, visa / process fees...etc. and people constituting pay/play which I assume is some insinuating of fraud or dowry system. I assumed some remittance was good showing you were invested, but now Im wary
