I was just curious how the other K-1's were going about the AOS process...especially those in the Seattle area. We're getting married today, then we're hoping to do a walk-in at the local USCIS office to apply for her work card and all. Any help?

To avoid Moderator moving your post from here to AOS section. Start reading the Guides onAOS for VERY good information and come back for specific question. Just make sure that you start collecting evidence to show you two are married couple, are for real. Those evidences will come handy at the AOS interview.

CONGRATULATIONS on your marriage! Make sure to ask the Court Clerk to give you EXTRA copies of the Certified Marriage Certificate. Need them for other government business in the next fewl months. Don't worry much, just enjoy your AOS process and do thing right the first time with the help of VJ power. Again, congrats! :D:dance::dance::dance:

It's a whole other ballpark, indeed. Kind of difficult, but at least Ngan's here with me to go through it as well.

Hi ridejewel,

Exactly as chuckandkim said: the AOS guide is quite helpful. It is exactly what we went off in our preparation. It gives you a step-by-step process for preparing the I-485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, the I-864 Affidavit of Support, as well as applying for employment authorization and/or advance parole.

The Adjustment of Status (Green Card) General Discussion forum is also very useful.

Best of luck to you both!

Yeah, this AOS process is a real pain. I thought the K-1 process sucked...The only good thing about AOS is that the real wait, the one for your fiancee, is over. Ide advise anyone who's waiting for their fiancee or wife to start learning about AOS now, get a little educated on it, its a whole other story.

Not too bad Ridejewel :D

Remember the big picture mentality we always talk about??? This is the same thing... how can you best tell the D.O. (District Officer) your marriage is real and genuine so that he sees it's justify to grand your wife a 2 yrs conditional permanent resident status, the Green Card although it's not green but a bit pinkish nowadays! Phew, that sentence is a long one, so sorry! :D The minimum amount of how-to knowledge of AOS process is available to you right here on VJ Guides, for specific question for your individual case/situation, AOS forum is the spot you want to hang out. Keep in mind, there is no stupid question, only stupid answer and I know all about those stupid answers, hahahaha I was the one who gave them out from times to times hahahaha.... Relax and ride this jewel piece to the top baby!

Well, finding a civil surgeon was a ######, especially one that didnt charge much. Her vaccinations are much easier to get in America than in HCM, so we're lucky there. Then, getting her SSN...that's a whole thing. It looks like we'll just have to wait until she gets her EAD. Also having to redo the new affidavit of support form, getting everything right so no RFE's are sent to us. The AOS forum is really helpful, USCIS is pretty easy to contact as well. It's just the order to do things in that messed me up. We accidently registered to marry before we applied for her SSN, so now she's no longer a k-1, but a K-1 registered, I-485 pending, or something like that...Ive learnt so much, maybe I'll become an immigration lawye myself:) No real troubles anymore, though, we should have it all sent to Chicago next week.

Hi ridejewel,

I can understand your frustration completely. We too married before applying for the SSN, but ended up prevailing in the end. If your wife's I-94 is still valid for 14 days or more, you might try a different SSA office and just leave out the part that you are now married. Just apply for the SSN in her maiden name and you should be able to prevail like we did.

We ended up paying about $50 for the I-693A vaccination supplement. We had to call around to several civil surgeons in the area and just chose the best cost/convenience.

Keep visiting the AOS forum. I still go there daily to learn from others experiences. That is the beauty of VJ -- it is an evolving resource manual.

Best of luck!
