My husband and I had our AOS interview in Chicago on October 31st, 2006. We were told that everything looks satisfactory but the FBI background check was not complete, so we could not be approved right away. Its been 4 months now and nothing has happened yet. Does anybody know how long the checks can take? We moved to Minessota 2 weeks back and changed the address on our file but I'm not sure if that delays things with the FBI. I would like to think that the FBI check is independent of where I reside since my interview is done. Any thoughts???

It can take anywhere between 1 month and years. It's hard to say, however it does seem to be a trend (at least on VJ) that most get out of this blackhole about 200 days after NOA1. I will add to the waiting list, meanwhile check out the current thread:

Hello,

I got approved of my AOS just this week and I was interviewed last August 2006...so for my case it took 6 months after the interview for approval. and within those 6 months, updates from USCIS was about background check.

within those 6 months too, I made constant follow-ups especially when the processing month of the service center was a month more my receipt date.

At least you informed USCIS about your moving.

good luck to you
