It doesn't need a day to recognise the event. Insensitive, egotistical BS

I don't see this as a day to recognize the police officer for shooting Mr. Brown. I think it's concept was more likely aimed at supporting the officer involved in the shooting, which I am sure would have been stressful and traumatic in and of itself without the rioting and controversy that followed it.

I want to be very clear that I am not happy Mr. Brown got killed. I would have been just fine with him being arrested and charged but all the evidence of merit indicates Mr. Brown had a different idea about that particular outcome and his actions got him shot dead.

Its unnecessary. It's the police setting themselves at odds with the people they are supposed to serve. The Michael brown shooting needs less controversy, not more.

Race insanity = justifying the looting and burning of a city, because a violent criminal got killed, while trying to kill a police officer.

While being outraged over a peaceful day of support for the officer who almost died and had his life ruined, defending his life.

How do we support the day?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

It's a silly idea that has zero meaning to anyone outside the police department, yet which and an (at best) sends a mixed message to the community.

Just leave it alone.

Only members of the community who are confused and believe that the day is to honor the shooting. It's not.

Half of policing is ensuring good relations with the general public. This is not it.

The average person in the general public doesn't try to assault a police officer and attempt to take his gun when stopped for jay walking. There is not a lot the police can do to improve relations with those few who choose to do it, and pandering to misplaced outrage in sympathy on behalf of those who do is likely also going to be ineffective as well.

I wonder what 'effect' you see this sort of thing actually having on anythign. The police union can support Darren Wilson without publicly flipping the bird at people who take issue with the shooting. I think we all know well by now that the knife edge racial tensions that underlie things like the Michael Brown shooting (regardless of what actually happened in that particular situation) have to do with the belief among a lot of black Americans that they are treated as second class citizens in their own country.

Racism may have had nothing to do with the Michael Brown shooting, but that isn't what this is about.

You were trying to talk sense into people who believe Black people are third world citizens and should be less. You would get better results talking to a brick wall.

These are the same people outraged by the radicals throwing parties for killing U.S. soldiers in Iraq while they agree it is okay to kill U.S. citizens on U.S. soil and they think a national holiday should be created for it.

Take the racism mumbo jumbo out of the conversation regarding the police union setting aside a day to support what their fellow officer went through.

He tried to stop a Jay walker. He got physically assaulted and his attacker attempted to get his gun. In the altercation the attacker got shot and killed.

Traumatic in and of itself, yes?

Then because the deceased assailant was Black and the officer was White the entire incident blows up into alleged racism and police brutality on Blacks.

It wasn't. Never was. Never should have been seen as such.

I'm sure that the incident was tough enough had it existed in a vacuum and everything that followed, including trying desperately to find racism in having a day of support from fellow officers, not been going on. I don't think that the bird is being flipped at anyone except the actual victim, Officer Wilson.
