For those in Algeria, how's living expenses there? Is it cheap? Please provide estimate of how much it will cost per month. Any information is greatly appreciated.

I would like to know as well. My wife and I traveling to Algeria next week Insh'allah and it would be nice to get information from those who are already in Algeria.

I accompanied my wife to her IV interview today at the U.S. Embassy in Algiers. When we got there We were told they accidentally gave us a interview and that they believe Egypt may have lost my physical file ( case transferred from U.S. embassy in Cairo to US embassy Algeria). I insisted that they interview my wife because we waited for years to have this interview and after a lot of convincing the agreed and all went well. During the interview the consular officer sent an email to the NVC requesting the physical file to be sent via email on a PDF file. They took my wife's passport and said as soon as they get the file they will issue the visa and since I had ALL my paperwork in order they only needed the physical file for NAME CLEARANCE.

This has happened to a lot of Yemeni people but they never argued or put up a fight. They just get nervous And leave. There's a lot more detail to what happened today but it would take a while to write.

InshaAllah your wife gets her visa soon and I know you stated that it would be long to write, but can you please write or clue us in as in what happened? We really don't have anyone, after Allah, except each other. And this is crazy abt this whom electronic/physical file. Why is it now that they are requesting physical file when we never had one? All the documents to NVC where submitted via email?

we waited in the embassy to be called by the consular officer but instead was called by one of the Algerian workers. He is the one who kept apologizing for 30 mins and wanted me to go home so I argued with him about the matter. I told him to at least give me another appointment to interview my wife because I know if I just leave they will probably take weeks or a month to reply to my emails. He wouldn't give me another interview so I requested to speak with a consular officer and I barely got that. Then I spoke to an older American woman which was one of the consular officers. Told her of my situation so she went and sent the NVC an email requesting them to send my physical file by email. I convinced her to interview my wife and she agreed. She was very nice and helpful. She even had me translate for my wife and that was only to give her the oath and then she didn't ask my wife any questions at all and just kept talking to me. She said everything was perfect and that she just needed to see the file that NVC is going to send wishing this week inshallah for name clearance. She took her passport and gave me UPS slip to pick up my wife's passport when it's ready so basically the moral of the story is don't give up! Don't let any worker at the embassy try to do you wrong because unless your lying about something then there is nothing to worry about! If they never accidentally gave me this interview today then I'd probably be stuck in Algeria for a lot longer so alhamdullilah I'm grateful. As I said in our old forum some of us DO NOT have physical files and the embassies are not passing this message along and I also mentioned this to the consular officer because I don't want anybody else to go thru this as we have been through enough. Inshallah my story helps.

the consular officer explained that the only reason they call it the physical file is because it's too big to upload into the system or it's just a bunch of copies the approved i130 and i864. Also I was happy I had my i130 approval letter than I got from USCIS because that helped. Being prepared is all it takes

Thank you so much for you help! It's greatly appreciated and iA you and your wife hear something good soon.

I made copies of all of my uscis papers before I submitted them. So maybe I should include those for my husband.

Also, how cheap is it to stay in Algeria? Like for one person, per month would be be an estimate? For food, housing, transportation, etc

If he's alone it's very cheap and easy. there are a bunch of hotels that have a lot of Yemeni people in his same situation. Everyone is different but he can probably live good with $500 a month and that for everything but like I said everybody is different.

I also had copies but all they wanted was the original approval letter than you get in the mail from USCIS. Also before you send the paper work take pics or make a video explaining what each form is and what not. I'll keep you posted as I hear more.
