how do i reach congressman?, i contact my attorney and he said:

With consular matters we can’t do much from here. Visa issuance is a discretionary function and State Department does not respond to enquiries from attorneys. My suggestion to you would be to get your US Senator or Congressman’s office involved in this matter and request that they send out an enquiry on your behalf.

Here's a website that should help you find who represents you:

Or, as suggested above, just Google it.

I think you got a lazy attorney. They can get info if they need to, they either want more money from your case or are slacking off.

Find out who your state senators are, there should be two. Best bet is to read up on thier stance on immigration reform and write to the one most friendly to the process. My senators both had specific instructions for requesting help from them. I'm sure your's do to. One of my senators even listed a contact name and number for immigration inquires. Just look through their web page carefully and good luck.

Hi, you can go to this link and just select your state on the drop down box and it will give you links to where u can contact your senator.

http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_info...fm.cfm?State=TN

Also use this link to find your congress representative just type in your zip code

http://www.house.gov/htbin/zipfind

Try contacting both congressman and senator in regards to your case. You will find that people in different offices are more proactive and willing to help than others. Each representative will ask you to fill out a privacy authorization form that you can get off their web site. You should fax this form along with any other pertinent information in regards to your case so that they can make the inquiry on your behalf. I submited a for a congressional back in Jan after my case because out of processing time and no touches on my cause after a long time. This week I received a touch no approval yet, but at least its something. If the congressianl was the cause of the touch it helps to keep the faith and to know my file is not lost some where. Best of luck.

Use the internet to find your district and who is representing you. That information is in your local library, ask the librarian how to find that info. Alternatively, every states have two senators, find yours from http://www.senate.gov In most cases, it is better to write an official letter and follow it up with constant phone calls to the congressman's office.

They only ask their assistants to prepare a letter that will be sent through diplomatic means. Be sure to explain everythiing and useful refernces and dates in your letter and how you can be reached. You must prove that your case is special and deserve their intervention. Their letters get attention...a lot of it anyway.

[does anybody gone through with this process?

Tons of people have gone through this process - it's normal and happens regularly. Just go to the state senator's website and download the privacy form. Fill out, fax it in and call their office to follow up and find out who is the person assigned to your case.

Find one online.

I knew of mine because he use to be the representive of house. I just called and got an appoitment the same week. We went over my I-130 and 1-129F and then he sent my I-130 off. I believe them helping me with the process saved us time. Make sure when you go to their off that you have all the forms filled out and all your questions written out to ask. They won't help you if you aren't a prepaired. He was amazed at how much knowledge I knew and my dad came along to and did not have a clue of what we were talking about. A very good source

What do you want them to do?

Exactly.

I can tell you a little because I work for a congressman. Yeah you want to go to www.house.gov and type in your full zip code to find out who your Rep is.

Don't worry about what a Congressman's stance on immigration is, it usually doesn't matter. You aren't going to work with the Congressman in fact I'll be shocked if you ever see or hear him/her. You will be working with their staff who deal with those issues. So whether they are pro or anti immigration they usually try their best to help you unless they are just incompetent.

Congressional offices can only do so much anyway. They can't speed up the process and they can't give you a favorable decision. They are basically there acting as a middle man between you and the immigration agency. Ultimately immigration makes all decisions. We have a case right now where a woman from Colombia is trying to bring her kids over but they are stuck in the process now of doing background checks. There is absolutely zero we can do to speed that up. The background checks have to be done.

Congressional offices can inquire, find out if there is a problem, and advise. They cannot force things to happen.

Each office has their own procedures to helping you with your immigration issue. My advice is to call their district office first NOT THE DC OFFICE. Usually the DC office does not deal with constituent problems. So when you find out who your rep is, call the office closest to you and tell them that you have an immigration issue that you need assistance with. They will then instruct you on how to do that. They will require you to fill out a privacy form of some sorts that just basically allows them to legally help you since they are dealing with your personal information. Some congresspeople have these fill in forms on a website...I would call first though because they all get a lot of emails and it might take some time to get to yours.

Now I wouldn't contact your Congressman, and two Senators at the same time...why? Because they all work with the same liaisons in immigration and they will know that another office has your case too. What I would do is first go through your congressional office. If you don't feel they understood you or didn't do enough to help THEN go to one of your Senator's office. If the same thing happens then go to your other senator. Whatever you do do NOT go to another congressman's office that doesn't represent you. All they will do is forward your info to your congressman that represents your district. However in choosing your senator you have 2 US senators to choose from so you can pick either one.

I hope this helps!

Dear bigbluecane,

I have been looking for information for weeks on the internet and your post is the most helpful post.

I will just have a quick question. I am married to a US citizen and going through the greencard process.

I received the I-130 application receipt at the end of June. I have the assistance of a congressman and its office sent an "expedite note" for my case July 14th.

Do you have a rough idea of how long it takes usually? What is the time frame when you have such support, to have the I 130 approved?

Thanks a lot for your knowledge and help,

Em

What basis did you seek an expedite.
