A warning to everyone who uses eBay, please read!!!

I tried to pay for an item which I had won and went to eBay through the winning bidder notification email. After logging in as usual, a page came up with the heading 'Attention!'. It said because of recent fraud incidents they were asking for additional information to make the system more secure(can't remember exact wording) - the page looked exactly like an eBay page and had a secure URL beginning with https: so I didn't think it was anything odd. It asked for the usual - name, SSN, DOB, etc. but then it asked for things like my bank acct. #, routing # and PIN #!!! The last made me very suspicious so I didn't send any info. I then tried to log in directly from ebay.com and got the same page. It did not appear on my work computer when I logged in. WARNING - if you see this page do not give any information - eBay says if it is not a message sent by eBay to your 'my messages' box then it is not an official eBay message.

:o How did the phishing link come up from pressing the winner notification email… for something you had actually bid for and won? And how did that page come up even though you went to the normal ebay.com website? Yes we all have to be REALLY aware and never info like bank account number, etc. Still, it could have fooled me into putting my EBay user name and password… that’s scary…

I am now getting the same page when I log in to my PayPal and Citibank accounts - I think it is some kind of virus. I tried emptying my cache and cookies, ran Ad-Aware, no luck, it's still there. It soesn't come up when I log in from my work PC. I think I need to update my Norton software and that will hopefully get rid of this - it's driving me crazy, hope nobody has actually fallen for it - the Citibank page actually asked for the high school that I graduated from!!!

Most new hijackers will not allow a user to change back to their home page through Internet Properties; the preset hijacker's settings will most likely return upon reboot. Almost all new antispyware software will remove it. Some have a browser page restore function to set your page back to normal. Some also alert you when your browser page has been changed.

this is what i run. about $30 for 2 years.

you can try several other free programs, like spybot before resorting to that one above.

i liked adaware when it first came out, now i avoid it as it seems to be a waste of time.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."
