I just got my EAD card in the mail today!!

Quick question, I heard that it is possible to get an appointment at the Social Security office? I looked everywhere at my local SS and it's nowhere to be found. I don't think it's available here :(

The reason why I am asking is because Ive read somewhere that people had bad experiences waiting at the office. I'd rather save time than wait hours there.

Congratulations! I know I certainly won't have my interview waived because our situation was an AOS from VWP, so I'm pretty sure that's an automatic interview.

That is definitely not right, because they have to run a background check using the information they collect at biometrics. I also have my fingerprint on my card, so I imagine it's part of the process when the card is produced. Might be worth calling and checking up on this just to make sure as we can only speculate.

I thought it was strange as well. I thought maybe it could be since she had her biometrics done in London before she got here. I guess we will just have to see when we go next week for the appointment they gave us.

Congrats!

I think you have to call to make an appointment, I know it's possible. It wasn't on the website, but then I don't think it is for any of the offices. It was probably from me that you heard about the bad experience, I posted a while back about my SS nightmare. 2 and a half hours and had the rudest lady before everything got sorted.

Plenty of people have gotten their EAD without fingerprints, some just got "fingerprints not available" printed on it.

You can make an appointment. Follow this link for how: https://faq.ssa.gov/link/portal/34011/34019/Article/3881/How-do-I-schedule-reschedule-or-cancel-an-appointment

I went without an appointment and - though it looked crowded - took less than 30 minutes including wait time. Good luck!
