August 2015 K-1 Filers [merged topics]

Ooops. Sorry. You would think after all these months I would research before firing off a question. HA! It's been a while since the 129... )

So i understand on a K1 I am "a legal alien allowed to work" for the purposes of the SSN application. Good. Stand down!

All I needed for SSN is Birth Certificate, Passport and Copy of I94 status, which you can get from the link I provided above. The hardest part of getting it was the over 1hr long wait to get looked after, but we worked out it would take a while and went to the County Clerk's Office to apply for our Marriage license so we saved heaps of time hehehehe

Oh... I wasn't sure what to put in the status, I put other, but the SSO just looked at my papers and knew what I was applying for, very efficient and knocked it all over in no time flat 8-)

I see your P.O.E. date was 4 days before my arrival - are you showing up in the I-94 records? I'm still nowhere to be found on there It's been 2 weeks today and we just want to apply for the SSC already lol

My advice would be to go to the SSN office and just apply for the SSN. That is what I did with my wife and the guy at the office actually pulled up himself the i94 record. Where I live is Ohio and the guys at the SSN office are really helpful!

Thank you! I'm just assuming since I can't find myself in the system, they won't be able to either. It will add weeks if I apply for the SSN before actually being in the system. We'll call them tomorrow if I'm not showing up in the system by the end of today. After all, they are saying you can apply after 2 weeks.

Finally applied for my SSN / SSC today. I wasn't showing up on the I-94 website after 15 days past P.O.E. After 3.5 hours of struggling to get to talk to anybody who had a clue, I finally reached a nice and helpful officer. It turns out the officer at Newark Intl. Airport upon my arrival put down 1913 as my birth year.... which is why I wasn't showing up in the records... It has been fixed and hopefully the SSC will arrive in the mail by mid February so we finally can apply for a marriage license

Hi guys. Our visa was approved in December and the 6 months to use it expires May 25th. My question is this; is there a way to extend the original 6 month validity of the visa so we can travel to the US in August or later? Thanks in advance.

Hi, I did a quick search and the answers I saw were not in favor of that happening. There are ways to delay the visa interview, which would have given you more time; but if the visa has already been issued, you probably won't be granted an extension. You'd have to start over. You really should contact the Embassy and inquire.

SSN was a piece of cake in NV. 45 minutes is all it took and it was mailed to me a few days later.

Marriage licence was also a breeze (They kinda specialise in fast weddings here )

Next stop... Wedding next week

Then it's time to get back to the paperwork for EAD, AP and Green Card

All I know so far is that we need the certified marriage certificate which takes about 10 days - in which time I will do all the form filling - I also know it's $1,070
