The first piece of advice would be to relax, and enjoy the flight. As to your other questions, this really depends on her itinerary. Is she connecting anywhere inside or outside the U.S. I would make sure she brings enough money to cover any incidental costs if she is connecting (food, drink, etc.). As to customs and immigration, again, just relax. Provide he passport with the visa and sealed package, and answer any questions honestly. Most of the time, the process only takes 10-15 minutes once you get to the window, but that varies by entry port and officer. Does she connect to another flight after her entry?

Regardless, Good Luck!

i say - carry about 100 in usd currency, maybe also 4 dollars in coin.

2 pairs of clean underbritches in the carry on.

when at a poe, use the bathroom located between the airplane and the immigration queue line, freshen up, take 15 minutes or less.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Just a couple of heads up.

1. You can bring a pen to fill in the custom documents or go online here to fill it out and print it to take it along.

2. Have cash money (peso's) for airport tax.

3. Be sure to carry your packet in your carry on luggage. Don't give it to anyone other than immigration when she arrives at her POE.

4. The amount of money depends. I say plan for the worse and the worse will be enjoyable because you planned.

5. Allow at least 3 hours at NAIA. It will take about 2 hours to get from the front of the building to the gate area. Leave a little extra and you will be fine. Each trip I have taken it has taken me 2-2.5 hours to get to my departing gate.

6. Relax, Relax. Be sure to bring something to do as the flight is about 13 hours to mainland USA.

Which terminal at NAIA and which airline and route? Time from outside of terminal to gate can vary tremendously. I have flown from Terminal 3 on Delta 4 times in the last 8 months. Outside of terminal to gate has never taken me 30 minutes, including checking a bag. But as Greenbaum says, allowing for things to go wrong is prudent. At least on Delta, there is another security check at the gate, after you have gone through airport security. I have seen tremendous variability in how long it takes to get in to Terminal 3. Downstairs (arrivals) typically has a shorter line. So do the upstairs entrances after the first two.

Terminal 1, with most of the International flights takes MUCH longer.

Bring at least one or two empty water bottles. In Terminal 3, international side, there is a station to fill your water bottle(s) about half way down the terminal, perhaps near gate 108? But ask the airline first. I don't if the secondary screening will allow water to be carried on. Also, small scissors, nail clippers, etc. that are routinely allowed in the US are sometimes not allowed by Philippines security, so I always put those in my checked bag.

Recently purchased international airline tickets are supposed to include the 550 PhP Manila terminal fee. Check with your airline, so that you don't pay if you don't need to (because you already have in your ticket price).

Good luck! Congratulations on getting this far. Now the real journey begins!

All good advice so far. My $0.02:

Minimum of P2500 for travel tax and possible terminal fee. P3000-4000 would be better. Any leftover just keep for a return trip or send in balikbayan box. Or burn it up at one of the shops after clearing security.

Some $ to have enroute. For snacks, incidentals and the possible worst case condition what ever that may be.

Final advice: Don't be shy. Ask questions if there is any doubt on what to do next. I would recommend going to the ticket counter first after entering the terminal and ask the agent what to do, where to go next. If first time traveler there will be a lot of stress, but just take a deep breath and try to relax. I personally would recommend to just take a small carryon with the visa packet and a possible change of clothes and personal effects if she thinks they are needed. Makes it much easier at connecting locations and again ASK QUESTIONS as to where the next gate is if connecting.

Welcome to the US.

ask questions only to uniformed personnel in any airport, make sure they have an ID visible too. And don't accept anything from any other person in the airport, just like somebody will go to the bathroom and that person will let you guard his/her belongings or somebody will want you to carry his belongings in the airport, please say NO. Just precaution.
