Hey All,

My fiancee is arriving on March 9th and we are doing a private wedding ceremony as soon as possible. I am looking for something to wear to the mosque - like a white abaya. I have searched online, but I'm kind of scared it will not come in time. Anyway....does anyone know any good Islamic Clothing shops in or around NYC? I know there is a big Arab section in Brooklyn - Any specific suggestions????

Also, if you have any suggestions for Halal restaurants that I can bring my fiancee too when he gets here please post them as well!

Thanks!

Christina

not sure about clothing shops. there is one near here but from what i've seen in the window, not pretty at all.

there are also tons of halal restaurants in ny. are you planning on being in queens? brooklyn? manhattan? that would help me to suggest places for you! :)

Go to Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn. There are a bunch of clothes stores around there, right near the Atlantic Ave subway stop. There are also some restaurants there. Steinway in Queens also has a bunch of restaurants that I assume are halal.

PM me if you want more info!

Thanks!!! Atlantic Ave looks like my best bet. I'm going to be daring and head over there now (you know how it is when you cannot focus on anything besides dresses right :) ) Hopefully I will find something today, if not I will just order online and pray that it comes.

We will probably be doing all the touristy stuff in Midtown so any Halal suggestions there would be very much appreciated.

Steinway has more restaurants than Atlantic Avenue. We've eaten a few places on Atlantic Ave and I wasn't impressed. Steinway also has more of a North African feel to it than Atlantic Ave.

Hi Chris,

where are you in NYC? I work in the chelsea area. I have a good friend of mine - she's Jordanian and we're going to the Arab section of NJ next weekend for some shopping. There's also a huge concentration or MENA cultures in queens area.

Please let me know what you find.

thanks,

Hey everyone,

Just got back from Atlantic Ave...I found a nice plain white abaya for $50 which is was just what I wanted. The stores there were ok...but I didn't really feel too comfortable spending a lot of time browsing you know what I mean? Anyway, I'm glad I bought something cause I was really starting to freak out.

The dress is nice but its kind of thin...do you think possible to have a seamstress line it for me?

Amera- I would love the name/address of that restaurant.

Bosco - Thanks for the link, I'm sure it will be very helpful

I'm not actually in NYC, but in Long Island, but out here there are like 2 Halal shops.

Thanks guys for the tips
