Is it too risky to already now book a flight leaving for the US 15 days after the visa interview?

I've read about delays on getting the passports back and cases being placed for additional processing after the interview..

Given the lack of consistency for the NVC/Embassies (and our bad luck), I wouldn't do it... What I do plan to do is make a reservation through a travel agent, they can usually hold them for 24h and "renew" it a couple times...

On this topic, is it safe to buy a one-way ticket? I ask because airline staff always check that during the check-in if you have a return ticket when you fly under a tourist or business visa.. Will they understand I don't really need one this time?

Yes they will for sure understand you don't need a return ticket :) You have your visa in your passport and there should be no issue.

I had a student visa a few years ago and that was never a problem.. And now we will have conditional or non conditional permanent residents status :)

The only argument for not buying a one-way ticket is that for many airlines it's cheaper to buy a return ticket.

Hmm... Maybe. But you should for sure have your passport by then. Its all up to you. I think Ill wait till I see the passport in the mailbox and then leave a few days after whenever there is a good ticket. Norwegian has good one way tickets basically all the time

All the risks I've taken so far to sell my apartment and quit my job have been right on time. But tickets to Austin are always very expensive so maybe I should hold off. I missed my flight once and it hurt badly haha :)

I love Norwegian! I wish they would start a route to Texas. I'd be fine flying in to Houston as well.

At least I booked my trip up to Stockholm for the interview. Found cheap tickets with SJ and I don't even have to take a day off work since I can work on the train :)

That used to be the case for flights from Brazil too but now there's an airline that actually charges one-way prices.
