When we send all AOS and IV documents, what documents we need to send Originals? I think most of them are copies only. But I think we need to send some originals like I-864 etc. Do we need to notarize the copies that we mail them?

Thanks.

You only need to send an original Affidavit of Support form and the tax return transcripts(if any).

From the IV package, you only need 2 colored original photographs of the beneficiary.

That is it. All other documents should be photocopies.

You guys are absolutely correct.

Whoa, thank god i caught this on time.

My only question is would you guys suggest I send the originals (of the birth certificate and marriage certificate)?

I was under the assumption that NVC would just put them in a package and send it to the consulate.

I could have sworn I read somewhere on here people sent original marriage certificate and birth certificate than the embassy handed to the spouse after the interview was conluded.

That's not right? So send copies and NOT originals?

(In which case I'd have the send the original birth certificate and marriage certificate back to my spouse right?)

I sounds about right but that is not the case. Even on the NVC website they have clearly mentioned that you are supposed to send a photocopy of this or that document to the NVC and bring the original to your interview.

Think worst case scenario they lose your originals. Please just do what NVC asks and send the photocopy and bring originals to interview. This is a big plus for most people because no more having to mail important documents. You can just scan and print. They are making things a bit easier so just follow their instructions.

Hello,

Has anyone here managed to talk to the NVC today?

I've called them 30 times and all I get is that "All our lines are busy" message. I'm currently in Asia, so my day is going to end soon.

They misspelled my name, so it's kind of important that I talk to them ASAP

Yes, i managed to speak to nvc rep today. Keep trying tomorrow is my suggestion and don't lose sleep over it.

If you guys have any questions specifically for me,

I will be glad to help via private message.

I'm sending in the original birth certificate for my spouse along with the original marriage certificate as well

Question - When the DS-260 is available, can I complete it for my immigrant spouse (beneficiary)?

Or must it be my spouse who completes it?

Hey vajaster. Sorry for late response, I was out the whole time.

Anyways, again, do not send the original birth or marriage certificates.

Also, you can complete the DS-260 if the beneficiary can't do it for some reason(eg. there might not be stable internet or something), but then you will have to fill out your name as the preparer of the form. I am not sure though. If you have all the information, it should not make any difference as to who fills out the form. If you want you may confirm it on the phone with the NVC.

I have been the agent for someone going through nvc before. After filling out application i just made sure that the applicant logged in only to sign the form, just in case they track ip address or something. Nvc probably wouldn't suggest this but it is a viable option, as long as you are 100% of the information being entered and applicant agrees.

If you guys have any questions specifically for me,

I finally managed to talk to them, but I'm not happy. My first name was spelled wrong in all NVC documents - luckily all my previous information from USCIS was okay though.

Can you believe the NVC rep said they're not authorized to correct my name in their database?! They asked me to send an email. I was so upset :ranting:

But let me ask you guys, after you got your AOS fee status as paid, how long did it take for them to invoice the IV fee and release the DS-260?

I hope you all have a good day (or evening!)

Some of the reps at NVC are quite rude. I had a run in with one who's name starts with Art(was a male lol). That is ridiculous about the name change, especially since your documentation from USCIS was correct.

Hopefully you were able to call NVC and confirm you DS-261 or have them approve it over the phone? It think 2 days after doing that you will receive you IV invoice and then 2 days after paying it will release the DS-260 application form.

All the best with your efforts to keep the NVC in line.

Hi, thank you for the reply.

I just sent my email asking for the correction of my name. I'm very curious to learn how long it will take (or even whether) they will reply to me.

She said she could see my DS-261 on the system but she refused to do anything about it :-( and said I should wait for ***42*** days for getting the IV fee invoiced.

How do you guys get them to review it on the phone with you? Is there any special tactic?

Hello,

They misspelled my name, so it's kind of important that I talk to them ASAP

Hey BRlove. I have the same problem as you. They have misspelled my husband's(the petitioner) middle name. I called and asked but they said they cannot update it on the phone. So I had to type out a formal letter explaining my situation, attach a photocopy of the petitioner's passport reflecting his correct name, also we had to attach a barcoded cover sheet from any of the online portals on top, and ship it to the NVC. At first I was going to email this whole thing but the NVC operator told me it might get processed faster if I mailed them instead of emailing. She said emails might not even get touched for a long time, but it depends on us. We could choose to do whatever.

Anyways, we chose to mail the documents, which we did just today. So lets see. Hopefully they will update it soon.

P.S. She told me this would not delay my case, and both will keep on getting processed independently of each other.

Hey. I hope you sent the email with some proof of your correct name. They specifically asked me to send a photocopy of my husband's passport.

I hate this. Why do we have to suffer for their carelessness and mistakes! It is so ridiculous because we too had the correct names on all our I-130 documents. :ranting:
