I feel stupid asking this but is there a way to enable searching for certain words ??? or what software can i use to do this??my husband has a little brother (13 yrs) and he was searching for very disturbing things online using yahoo.com and google.....

not only does it bother me to have stuff like that on my computer but it also "attractes" many viruses...

You can check the internet history out the history of websites he has been visiting by looking at history in internet explorer. Internet Explorer 7 has a history search located on the gold star, where favorites is also located.

Could be your hubby needs to invest in NetNanny or a similar parental control program? Short of that, keep your anti-virus software up to date, and make sure you have a good firewall... Boys will be boys!

i also recommend a good anti-spyware program or two to go along with it. webroot's spysweeper is pretty decent.

We do have a good firewall and the viruses have been blocked.

And we dont really want to invest a lot of money in it because he is only coming over 1 or 2 days a week....

or i tell him he cant use the computer no more...:innocent:

Winpatrol is also a great program to stop spyware. And Adaware and PestPatrol are two other programs I regularly run as well. The more anti-spyware the merrier these days!

what type of browser do you have and what version? on ie7 you can enable a content manager (never used it so i'm not sure just what all that will do).

under "help" select "about internet explorer" and it will tell you what version.

under "tools" then "internet options" and then the "content" tab you'll find the content advisor. you'd have to enable that and see what available settings there are. i don't know if it will restrict the searches but it might restrict him from going to certain sites.

something you could always do is personally monitor his computer usage. just check up on him frequently when he's on the internet

eta: if he has a few favorite sites he likes to visit, you can always add those under the security tab as restricted

I'd just set up a password on the computer so he won't be able to log on. If he's doing things on the computer you don't like, then I'd limit his access. It's either that....................or stay with him whenever he's on the computer.
