I applaud this guy for what he did. No way he should pay the $1800 for the drone. The loss of an $1800 drone should be a lesson the idiot drone owner should bear. Same goes to the others flying drones near airports.

I didn't read that into the OP but most fathers would be upset if their moron neighbor was firing his shotgun in the backyard. I know that I would be upset about that more than a drone.

Actually, he was very responsible from a gun owners perspective. He waited until it was directly over his property, and used a light shot gun load that would do little harm. The big thing here is some tech geek perverts invading other's privacy.

Not entirely, but if one uses a proper load the chances of any injury from falling pellets is slim. Force = mass x acceleration. A very small pellet falling at 9.8m/s^2 does not impart much force into anything it hits after falling. Add to that shooting vertically rather than horizontally, and I think this guy acted responsibly.
