K1 visa received! Yellow Envelope is torn!

Hi all,

Im wondering if anyone can shed light on whether this will be ok.

I have received my passport with my K1 visa and the yellow envelope that we are not allowed to open through the courier from the Consulate in Sydney.

When I opened the courier bag, my yellow envelope is slight torn at the bottom. It must have burst open through shipment.
Please see pictures below...

It still shows it is intact and the seal is not broken however, I am worried about this corner part. Would this be a problem through port of entry??

Also it says my visa expires Jan 2016 however my petition expires 28 august 2015. Does that mean I have to enter the USA before 28th august??? As I was planning on entering sept 2.

Thanks!

i couldn't see a photo here. But my package then had a corner open. I think that is normal. When I arrived at the US. The envelop was pretty torn too lol they understand, its a long trip. As long as you don't open it deliberately, you are fine.

Jan 2016 is the date. no worry.

ok , i see the photo now. Just do what you can to prevent it getting worse lol put it in a plastic case or something to protect it. You will be fine.

Thanks PDXDD! Was yours ripped like mine? Im so worried :(

Also Ive read other people getting denied at port of entry for a expired petition even though their k1 visa isn't... argh!

Ive emailed the sydney consulate as well to shed some light. My POE is going to be Dallas, it seems they are nicer there..

That is nasty. Contact the embassy and have it repackaged.

That doesn't look like a normal cut that is usually there, looks like it kinda burst open. I would definitely take it back to the embassy and have them repackage it.

Hey guys!

I received an email from the Sydney Consulate and they advised me to just get a clear sticky tape and stick it together to prevent it from getting more damaged... lol So I think I'll just print the email I received from them as well to show the CBP Officer if they question it.

What do you guys think?

Sure. But I really don't think that is a big idea. But I understand why you are so careful:) When at POE, my envelope was in much worse condition coz i got too much stuff in the hand carry luggage tho i already tried my best to protect it. The officer didn't even say a word.

K1 envelope has no secret in it. To protect it well mostly is because you don't wanna lose any documents (such as health check and vaccination etc.) for later AOS purpose.
