09/07/2006 - Warsaw embassy sent packet 3 (damn post services, never received any)

09/18/2006 - packet 3 sent (Nothing fails)

09/27 - received packet 4

10/10 - medical exam

10/19 - INTERVIEW!

10/20 - received visa

11/7 - arrived in USA, POE YFK

1/19 - Married

02/23/2007 - Civil Surgeon (checked just vaccines for $ 25)

05/04/2007 - AOS package sent to Chicago

05/11/2007 - NOA1

05/15/2007 - NOA2 - ASC appointment letter about biometrics

05/24/2007 - RFE about tax forms w-2 and 1099!!!

06/05/2007 - Biometrics

I'm also planning on volunteering in the period when I won't be allowed to work. I'm hoping to get some references for my resume and even maybe some contacts for when I look for a job.

I'll also do a lot of riding on my bike (that is so lonely there in CA right now...) and visit the gym and friends. Oh and I have to finally get my CA drivers license, I guess my International one won't do anymore...

My, I can't wait to be there with my Love Bug again :crying:

I don't know about CA, but EU drivers license in PA is valid one year.

I don't know about CA, but EU drivers license in PA is valid one year.

Drivers license varies significantly by state... in IL its only valid for 3 months... and international drivers license is not honored at all... strict!

I was worried about this, so I got us tickets to fly back through JFK and my (now) hubby got a temporary EAD stamp. I had a job waiting for him, which he is still working at over a year later. He did have some time on his hands when the temp EAD ran out and before he got the 1 year EAD. This he spent gardening, studying english at home, and relaxing. We are in a rural area and he didn't have his driver's license yet, so options were limited. Fortunately, he's a really good sport and loves to putter around the house/yard.

For a city like Phoenix, I'd get him a bike and a guide to the city. Go with him a few times so he understands the traffic rules, etc... and how to get home. At least then he'll feel less like a caged animal. Here are some other ideas from a quick google search:

Our library has free ESL classes, so you may want to look into that if he needs to learn (more) english. Or another kind of class in something he's interested in or will help him with his career...

My fiance will be here in a few weeks and so I've been thinking about this question a lot.

I have signed him up for ESOL classes 4 days a week in the morning, there is a gym and a pool here (we live in Florida), and I'm going to get the DL book for him to study for.

He doesn't know English so I think he'll try to watch TV and study the DL book (which is only in Spanish - let's hope he understands it). He can go on-line, talk to friends and family, go for walks.

I assume he'll study English, sleep, cook (which he does very well :)) and maybe clean a bit, do laundry...he's great!!

If my fiance wants to he can volunteer at my school once and awhile. That way we can be together and he can work on his English.
