What did your spouse do between K-1 & AOS ?

I was noticing that not everyone was applying for their SS # right when they got here, and was curious what they did with their time? We applied today for my fiance's SS card today, so we are waiting for it to be mailed. He's so used to doing something driving, working, that he feels bored/stranded in the whole waiting period.

Any ideas? Or what did you do when you arrived here?

ESL classes twice a week, daily trips to gym. He just got Drivers license today so he will have more freedom.

We just got a puppy...that's taking up a lot of my time right now! I have also been settling in my daughter, organizing the house, getting the lay of the land in my new city and researching the job market and education upgrades I'll need. I really don't know how I will fit work into my life once I get my EAD or greencard

Good question - my fiance will be here next Friday and I'm wondering the same thing. I will be at work all day and he will be at my house with my family (until we get married)... how exciting for him

I am looking for an english class he can go to and then my brother is going to take him to his football club one night a week... but I'm trying to think of some other things he can do besides sitting around all day while I'm at work.

I organized my apartment.

I have taken walks around town in the bitter cold!

Sorted out my husbands change of address and change of marital status things.

Looked about education and job markets for when I'm ready.

And spent alot of time on VJ

Well since my fiance is a male I don't think he'll take it upon himself to organize the house or sort out anything... lol... it would be nice if he did though

I'm also planning on volunteering in the period when I won't be allowed to work. I'm hoping to get some references for my resume and even maybe some contacts for when I look for a job.

I'll also do a lot of riding on my bike (that is so lonely there in CA right now...) and visit the gym and friends. Oh and I have to finally get my CA drivers license, I guess my International one won't do anymore...

Well, I go to the gym, finally have time to hobby paint that I never had time to do before, prime up my resume for eventual job applications, look for jobs online, clean, cook and start painting all the white walls in my house - because I need some color! It keeps me going. And of course, be an obsessor about VJ

My wife is taking free ESL classes 3 times a week. She definately keeps busy, by cleaning, cooking, reading drivers manual, spending time with my parents who are retired, and of course chatting with her family. This time that she has is good for her to relax and get adjusted to the US, before she starts working. She knows once she starts working much of the above is lost.

my husband took advantage of the down time to just chill...ps2, tv, dvd's etc...he also learned to cook and do household things (which he never had to do because he was "fortunate" enough to grow up in the Philippines ). he just received his EAD and we're going to the DMV on Monday to apply and take the written test. job hunting is his job at this time.

Your local public library should offer free english lessons OR know of somewhere that does.
