We have Good News and REALLY GOOD NEWS!

Olga was approved at the interview and we immediately went to Oath Ceremony processing! The elapsed time from approval at the interview to completion of the Oath Ceremony, including receiving the Naturalization Certificate, was 1.5 hours! (Go Newark, NJ Field Office!)

We arrived at 9:20AM for a 9:45AM appointment. At 10:53AM Olga was called to the interview. By 11:20AM, Olga and I were on the elevator to the Oath Ceremony floor. Olga needed to go back to sign her Naturalization Certificate. By 1:00PM, the Oath Ceremony was over and we were back on the elevator.

Needless tosay, we were amazed at the immediate Oath Ceremony. Now, we are already looking over the US Passport app. and voter registration forms!

The Interviewer quickly collected Olga's passport, green card and asked her date of birth. Then he quickly reviewed the file and asked: Are you still married, Do you still have a joint bank account, and, Do we have children together. Olga gave him the latest statement for our bank account, said yes, yes and no. Then he asked the questions from the application (Are you a terrorist, Have you been arrested, etc.). Then he did the reading test (brain fart..data lost due to excitement), written - California has the most population.

Civics Questions:

-What is one right or freedom from the First Amendment?

-Who is in charge of the Executive Branch?

-If the President can no longer serve, who becomes President?

-There are four amendments to the Constitution about who can vote. Describe one of them.

-What is one reason colonists came to America?

-During the Cold War, what was the main concern of the United States?

Olga was six for six on the questions. Then the Interviewer stamped her form APPROVED, had her sign her application, gave her a couple of documents and said, "Go up one floor." When Olga came out, we looked at the form and it was for the Oath Ceremony. At that point, we realized that we had a same day Oath!

We are catching our breath now! Our Visa Journey just ended!

Thanks Kash2011! Just got out of 500 Pearl St courthouse. 158 people from 48 countries! Good luck to all those still waiting for their oath ceremony!

For NYC filers: Got to courthouse at 9:55am for a 10am requested arrival and waited 15 minutes to go through security. You must turn off you phone and relinquish to security officer as you enter the courthouse (all electronics will be confiscated). Processing is done on a first come first serve basis. By 11:05 all processing was finished. We are allowed to go to the cafeteria until 11am if processing finishes early. We waited for the judge and at 12 we had a 15 minute ceremony. The speech was very emotional and so was the pledge of allegiance. Once the ceremony is over they hand out the certificates one by one (order seemed random). Once you have your certificate you are free to go. Voting registration was right at the exit. I was out by 12:30 even after voting registration. 2.5 hours was well inside my 4 hour expectation.
