Detty,

Itu susa sekali. Sekarang mahal.

Try a travel agent dulu.

After that, check with Thai Airways, Cathay Pacific, United Airlines and American. You may get a good deal if you book well ahead of your tavel date.

Sadly, Garuda Indonesia does not fly to the US anymore. They were not getting enough business to continue. :(

They do offer a codeshare with Malaysia Air though. Check with them also.

  • 3 weeks later...

First, congratulations on your approval :)

I do have some questions concerning your interview. My fiancee is having her interview next week, and I'm concerned about some specific details, mostly on establishing our relationship via evidence.

We met in an online course, and we emailed each other for several months before deciding to become a couple. Five months after we first met, I flew to Jakarta to visit her. I stayed for two weeks, met her family, toured the city, and so on. Our relationship blossomed, and in March of 2006, I flew out again to celebrate our anniversary, her graduation from UNJ, and to propose :) I stayed for another two weeks.

Aside from those meetings, our relationship has been entirely conducted over the internet, and so we don't have a lot of "solid" documents that establish our relationship.

For evidence we've got emails going back and forth, ranging from the day we met to about two weeks ago, emails between her and my family, skype call logs for the last year and a half, my airline ticket purchases, photos of us with each other and me with her family, and we're trying to find a class roster that shows our enrollment in the class.

All in all, we can show emails going back and forth for the last two years and three months, massive amounts of phone calls, and we can provide two big photo albums if we need :)

Does this sound appropriate? What kind of evidence did they ask you for?

Terima Kasih,

Sean

You are in good shape with evidence. Some questions asked at my Wife's interview:

Where did you meet?

Where does he work?

How many children does he have?

That was it. Of course, questions are tailored to your individual circumstances, but if your Fiance knows you well, no problem.

Don't worry too much, Embassy Jakarta has an excellent staff.

Hi Sean!

Thanks! :)

And as what William33 said, your relationship looks pretty straight forward! And the fact that you have met twice in within 2 years is even better.

The evidences you listed, were more than enough!! Haha.....my fiance submitted way LESS that those and we still got approved. And at the interview, the consular officer did not ask me to show more proofs! William did not lie when he said the interview is going to be easy at the Embassy in Jakarta. I was questioned a lot more than William's wifey but really, the interviewer was friendly :) Basically she just wanted to make sure that I really knew my fiance well.

Good luck, guy!!

Thanks for the support, it's very appreciated. BTW, I see Detroit is your POE, so does that mean you got your tickets? Did you end up going through a travel agent, or buy them directly from the airline? Last time I flew there I used a travel agent here in the States, and I flew for about $950 after taxes, but I've heard that most ticket purchases outside the US are actually cheaper, so I'm advising Kanti to find a local travel agent, who should be able to help.

Salamat Jalan

Ya! I've bought the tickets~~ it's like US$875 one way (Northwest) and I'll be overnighting in Singapore. For the same route, it costs like US$ 1.148 if you book directly from the airline. I bought it from a local travel agent, yep... it's the cheapest I could find. I've called several travel agents and checked on some online travels like expedia.com and zuji.com (btw, zuji.com sometimes offers tickets with good prices if you book well in advance), but the one I got was the cheapest. Your fiancee's name is Kanti? :) it's very unique!
