No. Please study more. 22 calibre shooting units are more widely used by teenagers, fathers of teenagers (to teach said teenagers), match competition shooters in high school and college (more than 200,000 count of shooters, as of yesterday) and general varmit killers in the CoNus (circa 118,000 at last count) .

One issue with .22LR is that its not as easy to produce as centerfire cartridges. Its a more complicated process. Therefore, when demand increased, it has been harder for manufacturers to increase production than say for .223.

I'd say .38 is.

.22lr is not a great round imo. Its cheaper than anything else on the market and thats half of the demand. As prices rose on other calibers, the entire market gravitated towards .22 hence the shortage. The round is a practice target round these days and competitions.

rimfire is older technology (the first metalic cartridge was rimfire) that is not as reliable as a centerfire.
