Learner's Permit for 30 y/o?

Hi everyone,

I've been scouring DMV Texas' website and the DMV.org website but I can't seem to find the answers I'm looking for.

I moved to the US last Sept on a CR1 visa, have my conditional GC now. I'm looking to apply for a driver's license but I understand that I need to do the learner's permit first. All I'm seeing on the websites I mentioned are adult driving classes/exams for 18-24yo applicants. I'm well beyond that bracket, I turned 30 last January. Is there a different list of requirements for those over 25? Do I even qualify for a permit anymore?

I had a PH driver's license but it expired on my bday this year. I drove a bit back home but I know driving here is different (a lot safer and less stressful).

Can anyone give me some insight about this? Thanks in advance.

_{I was 37 years old when I came to Missouri, had to have learner's permit before the actual driving test. But you can take the road test the same day you got the learner's permit with a certain age. I don't know if State of Texas DMV rules are the same.}

Everything you found online about 18-24 year old is for Texas Drivers Education course which is mandatory for that age range or below. Since you are over 24 years old, you don't need to take the Drivers education course.

Read Texas Driver Handbook for rules and other material for written exam, show up at DMV with all required documents (proof of identity, residence and others), fill the form, take the written exam and if you pass, get the learner license (permit).

After you pass the transition time (one month or 6 months before you can apply for license, not sure), you go again to DMV, apply for road test and if you pass get the license.

Thanks everyone! I tried calling DMV today but all I got was their automated everything. Didn't even give me a chance to speak with an operator.

I haven't walked in yet but I guess I'll start reviewing for the exam for a couple of days and then walk-in next week with the requirements.

You just need to go to any dmv in Texas

Fill out an application. Then you will take the eye test and the written test and you will have your learner permit.

You might be able to take the driving part the same day to get a regular license. It depends on how busy the dmv is. A lot of them requires you to schedule your driving test
