please study the visa foil stamp glued into your passport.

You SHOULD have a small paragraph there containing the word 'endorsement' in it. Can find it, study it? Oh, I sincerely hope so !

All depends on ELIS status. What is your current status in the ELIS portal ?

Thank you

i read the endorsement, what i understand it means; that is proof of permanent resident for one year...

then my questions... do i have to wait one year to obtain/request the residence card? do i have to request it or will it automatically be issued?

How do i see the ELIS status?

i know the ELIS portal but there is not a single log in option, there are login for paying fees, for reneweing cards.. and a variety of matter none of mine...

need helpi

cool, you viewed the visa foil ! Yay !

you've an arrival stamp in the passport from the POE, that stamp turned the visa foil into an I-551 document, a temporary green card with 1 year duration. You can come and go as you wish, using yer passport and the stuff inside of it, without having an actual green card (Yet another I-551 document) in your possession. Ain't that sweet? Sorta throws your worry about calendar out the window.

We've an ELIS topic in the General Immigration Subforum - please have a look there, next, nowish.

and no, you not have to wait a full year to receive the green card. USCIS and DoS give you a year, just in case there's problems at the card printing center or your casefile (that you hand carried back to the USA) doesn't get routed quickly back to the right USCIS office.

and no, you not have to request it. There are 2 triggers to receive the actual card:

1. pay the fee at ELIS portal and

2. transit into the USA, getting the stamp at the POE.

and that's it. Now that the two triggers have occurred, yer in a new queue with USCIS, all is handled via their ELIS unit, and status for card production is on the ELIS system.

I hope you study the ELIS topic in the General Immigration sub-forum, and soon !

  • 1 month later...

Thank you a lot Darnell!

I really appreciate your help and your time.

I have received the Residence Card a week ago!

Before coming to USA, the consul officer was "interested" in helping me to bring my son.. he asked me all the papers regarding him... ad spend several minutes and constantly told me that it is investigating what she can do...... finally she told me there's nothing she can do (despite I have read that if there is too little difference of age after the date needed to apply for the CSPA, it is the DECISION of the OFFICER...) those words didn't come to my head at that moment...

(the officer was very kind and nice btw)

but the offer told me the following.... "this is what you are going to do.. as song you receive the Residence Card, initiate the process for your son..."

And now guys... that's where I am going to need your help again...

do I start a new post or can I continue here?

what is the first steep for bringing my son here.. what form I have to fill, what office I need to go?

file an I-130 to the USCIS lockbox address.

Thank you!

reading about it i found the following

  • If your relative is already in the United States legally, he or she may apply to adjust status to become a permanent resident after a visa number becomes available using Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status.
  • If your relative is outside the United States, your petition will be sent to the National Visa Center (NVC). The NVC will forward your petition to the appropriate U.S. consulate when a visa becomes available and your relative will be notified about how to proceed. This process is referred to as “Consular Processing.”

he has b1/b2 visa, i have heard that if i file the process with him here.. it is faster..

how much faster?

i saw the cutoff date for the priority that would apply it is sept 08 (about 9 years!) if i am not wrong...

another thing id like to consult...

his father did two years go he was citizen when he died... when my son was younger his father toke him and the other and his siblings to be included in the process since hsi father and i didn’t get along... he excluded my son... is ther something my son could claim from? (just acquiring knowledge)
