I did my license as soon as I was allowed, having a State ID is very helpful. In the State I'm in, it's hard to get around without a car and my foreign DL wouldn't be accept after 30days. I honestly didn't have much to learn for the written test and the driving test went smoothly because I've had my foreign license for a couple of years.

Do you have anyone that can teach you how to drive?

You shouldn't have to wait to work to get your DL. Is it because you want to buy a car? I know that for card with down payments a job is necessary. I bought an elderly cheap car, nothing fancy, but I prefer not having monthly car payments, also, if you just started driving you might want to start with a car that, God forbid, if you have an accident wouldn't be such a loss. Insurance here is also pretty expensive.

Yes, you might have more experience than others but if they need someone asap and a DL is a necessity they might pass but if you have something others don't you will find opportunities quick

So it's not gonna be easy.

It's going to be really hard;

we're gonna have to work at this everyday,

but I want to do that because I want you.

I want all of you, forever, everyday.

You and me.. everyday.

So did you say a driver license is needed because you are required to drive as part of the job duties?

Do they just want to make sure you have a reliable way to get to work?

Were they possibly just trying to fill in an ID number on HR forms and simply used a less-than-ideal term?

Do you have a driver license from your home country? Do you have an international driver license? Your state night validate it and essentially give you a local driver license without taking the test.

If you don't want to take the road test now, get a non-driver ID or a learner permit (which is an ID with limiting driving privileges as you practice).

I've answered some of these questions in previous posts, and I don't know, only HRs can explain some of the others you mentioned.

My main question was if some had experience with employers who made exceptions with some skilled (or over skilled) new comers, immigrants, regarding their requirement of a DL, exception or under the condition they will get it within a few weeks. I feel so alone in this :). Yet, from all the kind posters here, I can only imagine I have to try to negotiate with the employers and give me a chance. I don't see at this time, any other solution.

Thanks to the posters for taking the time to answer me. It's much appreciated!!

Sorry, i seen your msg only now. No, i don't know how to drive, or at half way with driving lessons. I need to work to buy a cheap car. Yes I have substantial experience with higher edu in the process to complete that too, with referrals and all; but had too much administrative I was left with when my husband deceased among other tragic stuff. Being in the phase to adjust here it was very difficult on a variety of aspects I had to deal alone, or paying lots professionals but with misinformation as a result. So now I'm taking (rather re-learning) to take care of everything by myself, including this important aspect. So we'll see. thanks for your detailed msgs, it's really appreciated, feel less alone!
