Thank you! Hopefully we get the email soon so we can "officially" schedule the appointment.... Like I said, it just seems weird that you can go online and schedule it so easily, but they want you to wait until you have a certain email..... It's the first time I've heard that you ABSOLUTELY have to wait for packet 3 in order to schedule...... :(

Each country is treated differently. I, myself, had to wait Packet 3 from the US Embassy in Jakarta before asked them to scheduled it for me. Seems like probably US Embassy in Paris changed it completely different. I wonder why.

Wow, that's crazy. As far as I've heard from others here on K-1, the K-1's always schedule their own interview. Weird that the guard didn't know that.

Just want to clarify this to stop confusion from spreading: EVERY CASE IS DIFFERENT AND 100% K-1's do not "always schedule their own interview."

It depends on the embassy. Case in point: OUR K-1 CASE (Riyadh, KSA) has to be scheduled by the Embassy.

My suggestion is to check the Embassy Info here for your embassy and see how they do things..

Yeah but nowhere in any instructions about the French embassy they say you have to wait for them to e-mail/mail you the instructions before scheduling. I would have scheduled my interview before I got the instructions e-mail as well hadn't it been for my lawyer taking too long to fill the DS160 for me.

The whole process isn't clear — if we have to wait for the Packet 3 or not. Since receiving my NOA2 in May, NVC hasn't contacted me once. All the information I've gathered was from calling them directly and getting my case number. Now that I have that information nothing has been said about waiting or not waiting for the next step.

Seems like I'll by giving a call to the Paris Embassy tomorrow to find out what they want me to do. They've had our case in hand for nearly a month now.

Good luck with the rescheduled interview Chantuff9! I'm glad that the rescheduling process went smoothly (if I don't hear anything about my package 3 I might end up following in your footsteps).

Exactly!! None of this is very clear...... I know its a government process so none of it is perfect, but there is a huge discrepancy here in the Paris embassy. I agree, they're not clear about if you have to wait for packet 3 or not.... and no where EVER have I seen that the embassy has to schedule it for you. This is a new system that they haven't informed people about.... Trust me, charlieprince, I've done my research!

That is weird! They say they are the ones who will schedule an interview?! How come?! Oh well, have you tried calling them (Embassy) so you can be advised on what to do after all the documents that he have shown that day. If all else fail, you may need to reschedule :-(

I would only speak based on my experience. After approval, USCIS would send the approved petition to NVC and assigned a case number. I was the one who called and asked my case number. The NVC never contacted the applicants at least when my petition was processing.

NVC then sent a letter to the petitioner contain all information including a case number. So, it depends whether you want to call them or wait the mail from NVC. The reason why people call NVC so they can to get their case number faster and they can scheduled medical or other stuff.

The Philippines for instance, the applicant scheduled the interview - at least at my time- but an applicant from Indonesia like me have them scheduled the interview with me after received Packet 3 and confirmed them that I am ready to do my interview.

Interesting though that some U.S. embassy like in Paris has changed the process, I wonder why.

Update!! I just got this email from my caseworker!

Hello Ms. XXXXXX,

Mr. XXXXXXX arranged an appointment by himself via our appointment system –without having received instructions from us to do so. Applicants for fiancée visas should first receive an email from the Immigrant Visa section regarding which documents to gather and bring to the interview before scheduling the appointment. Unfortunately, we are in the process of changing the system of appointments and it is a bit confusing at this point.

At this point, Mr. XXXXXXXX can be scheduled for an interview on July 15, and he will receive an email from us shortly.

I can't believe they would change the system without telling anyone.... SO JUST FYI PARIS PEOPLE!! New system update..... I guesss......

Sorry to hear about your experience. It is really disheartening when such a thing happens after our excruciating wait. Very glad to hear that it got resolved. Thanks a bunch for sharing the email from your case worker.

My fiance will be going to the Mumbai, India Embassy soon for her interview (still at NVC). We wondering ourselves whether to go ahead and schedule the interview. There is a PDF document at the Mumbai embassy website titled "Appointment package for K visa applicant (Packet four)". It says at the very beginning that 'you should follow these instructions only after we notify you that we have received your approved I-129f from USCIS'. I guess we better follow that. But I did read somewhere on this website that K1 applicants can go ahead and schedule the interview. We will wait till we hear from the embassy.

Goodluck to you.

You might be waiting a long time. We never received anything from the embassy. Move forward with scheduling it yourself once you have your case number from NVC.

Nothing for the Paris embassy says very clearly that we have to wait to be notified in order to schedule. Just as nitsirk mentioned, we always heard that not everyone receives anything from the embassy! So we went ahead on our own... but apparently this time it was wrong! But you're right, it's been resolved now and I think we can be interviewed next week, so that's what I have to focus on! It could be worse.... but I can't wait for it to get better :luv:

Paris used to schedule the interviews for K-1s, in fact it changed only a few months ago. Looks like they are still in the process of transitioning, and their instructions are not 100% clear yet.

Hope you get your interview soon, chantuff9! :)
