Since yours is K1, it should go quickly. The only wait time is noa2, which is about 5 months, and after that no holdups at the embassy. If it were like ours (CR1 etc.), the longest wait time would be with the embassy in Addis (interview wait time) which could easily go past 7 months.

I have been waiting for the interview more than three months now. Based on the others in the thread, three months is too short of a wait. I recently tried to expedite but they rejected it.

Oh thank you for your reply, I didn't realize that you were speaking about a different visa. I'm sure some of the processes are the same tho and I'm wondering quickly if you could tell me how your or fiance 's medical exam went? Assuming you have endured that phase what does it entail and what do they look for on grounds to deny you. Thanks

After noa2 it may take about two months or less for interview. NVC don't have to process your documents, they receive noa2 and forward it to the embassy and the embassy sets up the interview, not NVC. So it may take about 2 months or less from K1 approval to interview. The only worry is that K1 denial by the embassy is very common.

Ok thank you but what about the medical exam I asked?

Best thing is to constantly check your online case status and if you see the case is at the embassy, call them and they will get you there right away to pickup your medical paper work and other necessary information. The medical exam by itself shouldn't take long, may two or three weeks appointment.

your process is different from the spousal visa process. yea Cali is pretty fast it can be days to the actual 5 months. with having a K1 yes you can schedule your own interview. once you get your NOA2 your case only hits NVC just enough to get a case number then it ships it off to the embassy and then you can schedule your own interview. the medical should take about 3 weeks so I wouldn't book my interview until you know for sure when it will get to the embassy. any more question we are here to help..

looks like someone answered these same question earlier Im just getting back and reading all the comments.. got any additional questions or just confirming?

The embassy denies alot of k1 visas? Is this something I should worry about? How can I ensure that I don't fail we are new to this visa process. I only met my fiance once in the period of a week unfortunately but we have kept contact everyday and talk multiple times a day. Also we sent pictures of all that to them. Why did you opp for the CR1 visa? If I may ask

K1 is simple and easy to get through fast but the denial rate is sooooo much higher. that's why people opt to go for spousal visa because it saves you money and time since you will be having to start over. getting married tells them your serious... my friend went there for 3 months did fiancé visa got denied and now starting spousal visa. so your week might not look to good but no one knows til you have the interview. I would of opted for marriage for Ethiopia but every case is different all you can do is take what you have and tell them what you know and its up to them.

man that's depressing. Ok . Some of my questions along with any advice you may be able to give me based on my information above are as follows:

1) Is the ethiopian interviews usually tough or negative (I ask because I read that with poor countries they tend to lean on it being fraudulent and thus complicating things more)

2) i provided a letter from my work along with the i-129f packet stating I have been working there since 2013 . My boss verified it and signed it along with a few other documents detailing my payments. Is this ok ( There seemed to be so much conflicting statements as to what to send financial wise that I don't even know if financial proof is necessary in this stage)

3) What is the ethiopian medical exam like? My fiance is terrified of needles lol how long does it last and what do they check for ?

Thank you and I thank you for your well thought out reply. Thank you for your time also enkuan

I'd also like to add quick one more thing I forgot which I'm greatly concerned about:

I recently read about IMBRA rules which prior to sending my petition I had absolutely no knowledge about??? i stated in my letter detailing how we met simply that we met online and began talking on facebook whatsapp and the like. Do uou think this is a gueranteed RFE or worse denial?

Thank you for your reply
