My husbands interview is on July 27. I need to send him an affidavit of support. Now I'm not making any income so I have a joint sponsor(brother) His total income(line 22 of 1040) is around $19,000. For a household of 3, it needs to be around $25,000. Now, he has a new job and his individual annual income(the amount he makes a year, not his total income on 1040) is about $85,000. Do they take into account his current income or do they only look at last years tax form to determine whether he meets the poverty guidelines? So will they look at the $19,000 from his tax return or will they look at his current annual income of $85,000 to determine if he is suitable?

Do you have any liquid assets? Money in savings? Anything to make up the difference?

And what if he works on commission? How would he get his employer to state how much he makes?

Does he have a base salary or is it all commission?

I was thinking that a household member could file an i864a to make up the difference?

I don't believe you can combine incomes. Someone more qualified to answer will be here soon. Sorry!
