Omg just got the NOA2 notice on the app!!!! Was so worried because our NOA1 was July 29 and most others had gotten theirs.... And it's our anniversary today to boot!! Best of luck to everyone - so happy to be in the home stretch :)))))

Just because you need it to do packet 3? Or are there other reasons I'm not seeing?

Right, you need the case number to send Packet 3, and you also use it to estimate (using CEAC, the online visa case status tracker) or find out (by calling/emailing the embassy) when your case has arrived at the embassy. If you send Packet 3 before it arrives and is logged, they will ignore your Packet 3 email.

Also, many embassies seem to be very slow about actually sending P3, if they send it at all, so us eager beavers are looking to expedite the process a bit by staying on top of things. In the meantime, the beneficiary can begin collecting the items specified in Packet 3 (BC, police certificate, court records, relationship evidence, I-134 Affidavit of Support, etc etc) . Don't forget you need a long form birth certificate for Canada, the one that has the parents names on it! :)

CEAC MNL case status changed to "IN TRANSIT" after 2 days ;) I'll update when it arrives. So the next status will be "ARRIVED" or "READY"?

Looks like it. Ours changed to "READY" today. Whoohoo! My fiancee is following up with the Consulate in Japan today. I'm finalizing I-134; I already secured all the documents I needed - was just waiting on our case #.

01/15/2015 - Met online (japan-guide.com)
04/02/2015 - Met in Tokyo; spent month together
04/15/2015 - Engaged! 
07/11/2015 - I-129F sent to Dallas
07/16/2015 - NOA1; transferred to California Service Center (CSC)
07/29/2015 - NOA2
08/24/2015 - Received case/invoice number; case forwarded to Tokyo Consulate 
09/04/2015 - Aya receives Packet 3
09/??/2015 - Aya completes documentation, gets police report, etc. Told by consulate we can't schedule interview until after
