Hey everyone,

Ok, so I have a very basic question. I received NOA2 last week, so I know its way too early to start chasing up my case and calling NVC. I'm just wondering, if hypothetically I never called NVC and just let things happen without following up at each stage, who would I hear from next? NVC or my local consulate? Is the next communication in the process just receiving packet 3 from my local consulate? And lastly, if I don't call NVC to find out my case #, etc...do I find that out from the consulate or does NVC send a letter listing that info?

Just a little confused on what happens next and want to know what documents I am waiting on at this point!

Thanks!

Hi Sarah,

Actually, I have the exact same question as we are at the same point in the process. Wondering if I'll hear from the US Consulate in Vancouver or the NVC next?

Thanks,

Kaan

Hey guys,

Quick question: What is the NVC contact number. ?I tried calling them today and it was on automatic voicemail. I just want to know that I have the right number.

603-334-0700.

I know its a little too early but I think I made the mistake of sending our application to Ottawa US consulate rather than Montreal US consulate. I want to be able to fix that and get on that as soon as I can. I read a lot of stories where nvc sent the application to the wrong consulate ( regardless of what was mentioned in the visa pettition) . Any Canadians in the house??? Any advice?

You can use either number (603) 334-0888 or (603) 334-0700. Both can be used to get your case numbers. BTW, lately 30 to 40 days is the norm. They seem to be backed up right now. Hopefully, that will change soon.

Be patient but persistent.

Could someone please confirm that after you receive your approval from USCIS and the application is sent to the NVC, that the next person to contact you is the US Embassy/Consulate and that they mail a package to your foreign beneficiary's address?

Also, does anyone have any info on work authorization once they've married on the K-1? How long does it take to obtain?

Thanks so much!

The Embassy will not contact you. You will get a packet 3 with instructions. You sometimes can get ahead of the game while waiting and at times you can even be finish with your interview before receiving the packet. Depends on your Embassy. You timeline doesn't say which Embassy you are using so I can't give you much more than that.

After filing your AOS it can take 90 or more days before you see your EAD/GC.

:time: It helps us to help you.

We got our RFE in the mail today and as expected it was due to the fact that we met on Tumblr and we didn't provide specific details about the website. Per the notice they're asking that we submit information regarding the website and the circumstances under which we met to establish our relationship.

I had put together a letter at the start of the week in preparation for this being the cause of the RFE and I stated that Tumblr is a microblogging platform and social networking website and is in no way affiliated or classified as an International Marriage Broker. On top of that I re-explained how we met and what it was that first drew us to speaking and forming our initial friendship and subsequent relationship. I even included attached their terms of service and privacy policy as documentation to establish that they are not an international marriage broker which I got both from the website and from speaking with their customer service support team.

This should be plenty, right? I'm sending out the reply first thing Monday morning since the post office is closed until then.

We certainly hope so too! I'll be leaving on the 29th to go see her and we'll be together until September 7th so maybe we'll hear some good news if we're lucky while we're together.

We got an email on Monday that we were getting and RFE in the mail and it arrived today. For us it was asking that we provide documentation that the website we met on is not an international marriage broker. We met on Tumblr and it's a blogging and social network site not at all associated as a dating website or an international marriage broker.

When you get the letter in the mail it'll likely be two pages. The first page is a blue piece of paper that has all your information: A#, Application Title, Receipt Number, Name of Petitioner/Beneficiary, and a Notice Date of the RFE. It'll have specific instructions to attach that letter on top of the requested information and then it'll also say up until when you are given to submit the information. Then the second page has information on what it is they're requesting. They even include a self-addressed envelope should you need it.

We were freaking out too and worrying earlier on in the week when we got the email but we narrowed it down to the fact that it would likely be due to the fact that we met on Tumblr. It's hard not to stress out about it but you should receive the copy in the mail next week and you'll both know what it is that you'll need to provide. Hopefully it'll be something simple and you can mail it out as soon as you get the letter.

Good luck!

So sorry you guys are dealing with that. Best of luck!

In case it helps anyone else - my fiancee and I also met via the Web, on japan-guide.com, a general Japan information and pen pal exchange site. I made this known in the letter I sent to USCIS, and included the name and address of the site. For relationship evidence, I provided about eight photos of us together in various locations in Tokyo and Kyoto, a picture of my Facebook page showing our relationship status (and some of her comments on my wall), my stamped passport for my visit in Japan, my receipts from the AirBnB apartments and ryokan that we stayed in, and a series of screenshots from LINE, the messaging app that we use to communicate daily.

Thankfully, we did not get RFE'd. Maybe just got lucky, though. You may have gotten your app processed by some 60-year-old grandmother who was all, "What is this...Tumbler thing?" :ranting:
