I'm currently at the Missouri Service Center, but I filed in Chicago, and my local CIS office is LA. How does this get determined? I'm very confused as to what dates I should be looking and why it's at Missouri not the CSC. Thanks!

All family based AOS cases get pre-processed at the MSC (AKA the National Benefits Center). After this processing is complete cases are usually forwarded either to your local district office where you will have your interview, or to the CSC, where your application will be processed without an interview.

The Chicago lockbox where you filed is nothing but a sorting office where they cash the checks and package stuff up to go to the MSC BTW. Its not related to the Chicago District Office.

If my husband's already done his biometrics, does that mean it's been transferred to the local office? How do you know when it gets transferred and to where?

You will get a notice in the mail...and you will also see that it has been transferred on your USICS profile.

You only recieve a transfer notice if your case gets transferred to CSC. You don't get one if your case is transferred to your local office, and the USCIS website will indicate that your case is still at the MSC (even if it is not).

The first indication you will have that your case is at your local office will be an interview notice (or maybe an RFE indicating it comes from there? Not sure about that one) but like it was said before you will be notified by email (if you've signed up for email) and mail if your case is transferred to CSC.
