Wrong A-number assigned

Hi all,

I found that the A-number that is printed on my CR-1 visa and on the letter from the consulate (we filed DCF) is wrong. USCIS says it belongs to some woman.

We came to USCIS a month ago, and the lady sent a letter to ELIS asking them to correct the mistake. We have not received a response yet. We don't know what's going on.

1) Did anybody face the same issue? People from other topics on VJ have their correct numbers on one of the documents, but I don't.

2) What to expect? Am I allowed to work? Can I leave the country and return? I cannot apply for medicaid -- that's what I already realized.

3) Should I push the process? How?

Uscis also makes mistakes and they'll try to correct it though it's going to take a little time. For the meantime you can schedule an info pass appointment at your local uscis field office and request a new temporary I-551 stamp to use as evidence of permanent residence if you don't already have one or if the one you have has the wrong A #. That with a social security # should help you work while they correct your issue. The stamp can also be used to help you travel as well.

You'll see on my timeline in my posts that something like this happened to me. My case numbers were fine but they seem to have mixed up some other woman's numbers too. I kept getting her mail - her interview notice, her EAD card, etc. I called USCIS and asked what to do with the mail. They said to mail them back with an explanation letter. Yet they kept sending me her stuff over and over. The numbers were off by 1 digit. I felt sorry for her. She received nothing for months, probably thinking she was being denied. Annoying at best!
