Thanks for the advice everyone. It got worse. The doctor called and said she found traces of opiate in my urine. I have been prescribed a pain killer called co-codamol for a bad shoulder by my GP. I may have taken one of my American wife's pain killers by mistake, its in the same box. She has oxycodine which is illegal in the UK.

Now the doctor wants to ask my GP some questions about any drug or addictions history (which I have none).

This opiate is really bothering me and I'm not sure if the urine test is detailed enough to reveal specific opiates or just a general presence. This doctor should be a cop.

Wow! With your admission of taking drugs before and just recently, your alibi taking the medicine by mistake seems unbelievable or unconvincing now to the doctor. Your world is getting dimmer man! I guess you should have started asking for legal opinions or help from an expert immigration lawyer. I hope you will can still or be able to come out of that gloomy situation you are in (and I hope your wife will still stand by you or will keep hangin on.) Goodluck!

The two main ingredients in co-codamol are codeine (opiate derivative) and paracetamol. Codeine is a widely used painkiller in the UK and is available 'over the counter' without a prescription.

Unless you definitely know for sure I wouldn't say you took an ocycodone. The opiate detection is most likely from co-codamol. Surely the doctor knows that codeine is widely available in the UK?

That's the doctor's job though, to be a "cop" for US immigrations and do a thorough exam and not let anything slip by. I guess that's why so few doctors are licensed to perform these exams. But yeah, you're definitely in big trouble with the wife. If my husband pulled something like that, he'd better run for the hills.... :)

I think that if they found opiates in the urine test, they'll make a more thorough examination of it to determine the source. Hopefully, the opiate situation will resolve itself when the doctor talks to your OP and finds out that you're taking medication which contains an opiate.

Thanks everyone,

Here is what happened.

I had to do three random drug tests over three months before the medical team would send my details to the embassy.

I passed them all.

I finally got my immigration visa through and have my sealed envelope :dancing:

However on looking at my passport I see that the expiry date on the visa ends before the issue date

Issue date is 26jan2016 and the expiry date is 02jan2016

Have they made a mistake?

I found out what the problem was.

The expiry date on my visa was automatically dated six months from my medical.

I had my medical seven months ago and should not have been issued my visa.

I have to have another medical now. As soon as the embassy gets the all clear from the doctor I get my visa.
