I call my MIL her first name (shortened version) however I suspect she would prefer Mom but I will have to investigate this further :D

Meanwhile, my DH calls my Mum Mrs. BLANK and she really wants him to call her by her first name instead.

Crazy parents :D

It's all first names all around. Though Nani calls my parents Mama and Papa at times.

I call them suegro and suegra as well, I'd think I should call them by their 1st names, since we're all adults, Luis keeps telling me I should say Doña Name and Don Name but I think that'd be too formal and impersonal and they don't treat me in a way that'd suggest I should be that formal, they hug me and laugh and joke and treat me like their daughter, besides, I've yet to hear anyone using Doña and Don so so far I haven't used either.

Luis calls my mom by her name but most of the time he doesn't use anything, it's the "hey" thing without actually calling the person.

Hi Everyone,

Good luck on your immigration journeys. What an interesting message thread, indeed. In answer to the question on this message thread, my answer would be:

My husband and I call his parents:

Mom (the only person who really derserves this name)

Dad (deceased)

My husband and I call my disowned ex-parents:

Witchy-Poo (or some yucky variation of their first name)

Warlock (or some yucky variation of their first name)

Ant

It seems like your parents have been really nice to you and your hubby .

I call his parents by Mrs. and Mrs -------- because I don't even know them so the relationship is way to formal and he just call my parents by their first name actually he calls my mom MY SUEGRA which means mother -in -law.

Thank God they love each other I hope his parents like me someday and the relationship can be as good as the one he has with my parents.

The journey is over we are divorced now.

Me - Mama and Baba

Bassi - Mom and Dad

Which is interesting because my dad wasn't a part of my life until I had cancer a few years back. So I call him Frank, but my SO calls him Dad. Go figure!
